AGL Energy's recent decision to move to full ownership of Victoria's Loy Yang A power station is a shrewd one. Not only is Loy Yang one of Australia's lowest-cost power generators, but AGL will receive significant compensation under the Australian Government's carbon tax assistance package. AGL's purchase of Loy Yang includes the mine from which it gets the brown coal that fires its generators.
