Mining operations have long dealt with the dangers of mine fires. Though significant advancements have been made, vigilance and continuous improvements are always top‐of‐mind for Fire Managers and Safety Supervisors. A new Quick‐Release Fire Tap Thread Protector from Hallen Specialties is helping mining companies improve the speed of access to threaded fire taps. When it comes to underground mine safety, seconds count.
Invented by a coal miner with two decades of experience in the mining industry, the patent pending Quick‐Release Fire Tap Thread Protector replaces the hard‐to‐remove thread protectors. The advantage is the patent pending release tab. “This Fire Tap Thread Protector can be removed in seconds. Each time, every time,” stated Pamela Siblik, President of Hallen Specialties.
Once installed on a fire tap, the molded interior thread grips secure protector on the pipe. To remove, simply pull and peel the built‐in tab and the thread protector falls right off the threads. Complete removal of the cap is ensured. The two “slots” along the sides of the tab extend the entire length and continue through the end stop at the inside diameter. Made of a bright orange durable plastic, the Quick‐Release Fire Tap Thread Protector and is available in 1‐1/2” and 2” sizes.
