Since the beginning of the industrial age steel has been an essential building material. Today China is by far the largest consumer of the iron-based commodity. In 1943 the world was producing under 400 million tonnes of steel but global production has sky rocketed since – in 2009 the world produced nearly 1.6 billion tonnes.
Colorcoat has created this infographic to trace the rise of steel and show what comes next in an environmentally aware age.
