Italian police seize 12 gold bars at Swiss border

Italian border police seized about $6 million worth of gold bars from a family returning to their home in Switzerland on Easter Sunday, the BBC reports.

Officers stopped the travellers' car because it looked weighed down and searched it further when the adults — an Italian couple with three young children — started looking worried.

The shakedown revealed 12 gold ingots hidden underneath the car floor. Police have reported the driver on suspicion of money laundering.

A video of the gold cache can be seen here.
