Silver tailings: Profitable waste?

Tailings are materials produced from mining such as milled rock and effluents. In many cases, massive quantities of these materials, regarded as waste, are left from previous operations. Given the potential health and environmental risks associated with tailings, they could be viewed as problems or project deterrents, but then again, they could be viewed as a source of cash.

Canadian-based Angkor Gold Corp. (TSXV: ANK) announced today it has deployed a three diamond drill at its Katieng prospect. Drilling is set to commence on geochemical targets at the property. After Angkor completes the Katieng program, the rig will be moved to either its Kunmum prospect or Oyadao tenement.

Centerra Gold posts revised 2012 production forecast for Kumtor Mine

Canada-based gold producer Centerra Gold Inc. (TSX:CG) announced today that increased ice movement in the southeast section of the pit will delay scheduled access to the high grade SB zone. Preliminary engineering analysis now indicates production of 390,000 to 410,000 ounces of gold in 2012 at its Kumtor mine, rather than between 575,000 and 625,000 ounces as previously forecast. The revised production profile will continue to be weighted to the fourth quarter.

La Mancha's measured and indicated resources more than double to 4.8 million ounces of gold equivalent
