Selwyn eyes thick, high grade zinc-lead in uncharted territory

Drilling results suggest to Selwyn Resources (TSX-V: SWN) that two key, high grade zones of zinc-lead mineralization may be connected at its namesake project in the Yukon, a joint-venture between it and Yunnan Chihong Zinc and Germanium. Two drillholes collared at the Don deposit hit thick intercepts rich in zinc-lead mineralization. Hole 180 cut 30 metres @ 9.27 percent zinc and 3.48 percent lead, while nearby hole 192 returned as much as 43 metres @ 8.94 percent Zn and 3.16 percent Pb. The drillholes respectively started 642 and 586 metres downhole.

New underground lead/zinc/silver mine in Broken Hill to start next year

The Rasp underground mine in the heart of one of Australia' most historic mining centres -- Broken Hill's Line of Lode -- should be operating by April next year. Development of the Rasp mine on Central Mining Lease 7 is in one of the most intensely worked areas between the Perilya Ltd North and South mining leases and it had a stop-start scenario with the big stall being when the zinc price crashed in during the global financial crisis.

Exxaro seeks bids for zinc assets

Reuters Africa reports Exxaro (JNB:EXX) has invited bids for the company’s stake in a zinc and lead mine in Namibia. The market news is quoted as saying: The assets up for sale include Exxaro’s 50.04 percent stake in the Rosh Pinah mine and its wholly owned Zincor refinery.

Levon announces closing of $40,170,000 offering

Levon Resources announced that it has today closed a previously announced financing pursuant to which the Company has issued 20,600,000 common shares at a price of $1.95 per share for gross proceeds of $40,170,000. The company intends to use the net proceeds of the Offering for continued exploration of the Cordero property located in Chihuahua, Mexico, and for working capital.

Scorpio Mining reports record silver production in Q1 2011 and increases mine operating earnings by 123% from Q4 2010

Scorpio Mining achieved record mine operating earnings of $12.5 million in Q1 2011, an increase of 823% over mine operating earnings in Q1 2010 and 123% over mine operating earnings in Q4 2010. Net earnings were $6.6 million or $0.03 per share (basic) for Q1 2011 compared to $18.6 million or $0.17 per share (basic) for Q1 2010. The Q1 2010 net earnings included a $19.8 million gain on dilution and deconsolidation of Scorpio Gold Corporation ("Scorpio Gold"). Basic earnings per share of $0.09 in Q4 2010 was due to the inclusion of $12.4 million of non-cash corporate tax recoveries.

Glencore IPO expected to boost appeal of Hong Kong as a mining destination

Commodities trader Glencore's bumper public offering has increased interest in Hong Kong listings from across the mining sector and will prove a welcome boost to the bourse, a senior executive at the exchange said. The world's largest diversified commodities trader is set to make its market debut in London and Hong Kong next week, in what could be a record listing, with Glencore [GLEN.UL] hoping to raise $11 billion.

Silvercorp reports record silver production of 5.3 million ounces, record net income of $68.8 million, up 79%, and record cash flows of $104.2 million, up 60% for fiscal year 2011

Silvercorp Metals reported in Q4 that net earnings were up 29% to $12.6 million, or $0.07 per share, compared to net earnings of $9.8 million, or $0.06 per share, in the same quarter last year. It also said that quarterly cash flows from operations up 44% to $34.3 million, or $0.20 per share, from $23.8 million in the same quarter last year. Production was 1.05 million ounces of silver in the quarter, resulting in a record annual production of 5.3 million ounces of silver and achieved the fifth consecutive year of production growth.

Zijin Mining to be one of Glencore's cornerstone investors

China's Zijin Mining Group Co Ltd said on Friday it would invest $100 million as a cornerstone investor in the initial public offering of commodities group Glencore. The investment in the up to $11 billion IPO will be subject to a six-month lock up period, Zijin said in a filing to the Hong Kong bourse.

China's Jinchuan silent on media reports regarding Lundin Mining bid

No word yet from China's Jinchuan Group as to whether the company is officially in the market for Canada's Lundin Mining. NovaGold releases PEA for Ambler project, Alaska

NovaGold Resources released a prefeasibility study today on its 100%-owned Ambler project in northwest Alaska. The Vancouver-based company is exploring the sprawling 36,670-hectare property, which is host to a number of high-grade copper, zinc, lead, gold and silver deposits. According to the PEA, commissioned by SRK Consulting, the property contains 16.8 million tonnes of indicated resources, with 4.1% copper and 6.0% zinc. The inferred category contains 12.1 million tonnes of 3.5% copper and 4.9% zinc.

Laconia to acquire Lennons Find Base Metal Project and Yandicoogina Project

Laconia Resources, a Perth-based exploration company, purchased Jabiru Metals Limited (ASX: JML) equity in the Lennons Find Base Metal project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Laconia made the announcement on Wednesday in a statement. Great Panther Silver increases mineral resources at Topia Mine, Mexico

Great Panther Silver Limited has updated its mineral resources at the company's 100%-owned Topia silver-gold-lead-Zinc mine in Durango, Mexico. The 2011 mineral resource estimate, by Vancouver-based Roscoe Postle Associates (RPA), comprises measured & indicated ("M & I") mineral resources of 171,000 tonnes at 864g/t silver, 1.56g/t gold, 7.53% lead and 4.37% zinc (7.44 million silver equivalent ounces), a 36.3% increase over the 2009 resource estimate.

Silvercorp up 4 per cent after positive preliminary assessment

Silvercorp announced on Thursday that it received a positive preliminary assessment for its Silvertip silver-lead-zinc project in northern British Columbia. Silvercorp's stock was up 4% on the TSX on Friday. The report prepared by Golder Associates favoured a small mine and mill operating seasonally at 500 tonne per day or 72,000 tonne per year. "The initial capital cost of the project is estimated to be $US49 million with sustaining capital costs over the remaining mine life (21 years) estimated at $US54.2 million. The payback period is estimated at 4 years for the base case and 2 years for the upside case after reaching commercial production."
