GIW Industries, the leader in the design, manufacture and application of heavy-duty, centrifugal slurry pumps, announced that global talc producer Mondo Minerals has installed GIW's High Volume Froth (HVF) pump at its talc processing plant in Outokumpu, Finland. During the pump's first month of operations, the plant was able to stabilize the flotation process and eliminate a safety hazard.

Metso will supply an extensive electrification and automation delivery to Outokumpu's new ferrochrome plant in Tornio, Finland. The equipment will be installed in several phases during 2011 and 2012. The test runs in the new plants will start in late 2012.

Emerging copper producer, Universal Resources Limited (ASX: URL) recently approved the development of the Outokumpu Copper Project (Project) in eastern Finland, approximately 400km northeast of the capital Helsinki. Read more

Finnish metals group Outokumpu Oyj reported Thursday a first-quarter net loss of euro187 million , down from a profit of euro63 million last year, as sales were more than halved because of the global economic recession.

The President and CEO of Outotec Oyj, Tapani Järvinen has decided to retire at the end of 2009. HELSINKI, Finland : Finnish metals group Outokumpu Oyj said Thursday that it narrowed its losses by two thirds in the third quarter, to 74 million , mainly because of lower nickel prices.
