Lundin Mining reports on Neves-Corvo future underground materials handling study and zinc expansion

The initial Future Underground Materials Handling Study for Lundin Mining's Neves-Corvo mining complex in southern Portugal identified and evaluated the underground materials handling and access options necessary to pursue the exploitation of the deeper Lombador copper/zinc resources as well as the Semblana copper deposit which are adjacent to the Neves-Corvo mine. The mine was examined in detail in IM January as part of the current Great Mines series on Lundin (Tenke Fungurume in March).

Lundin Mining Reports on Neves-Corvo Future Underground Materials Handling Study

Lundin Mining Corporation (TSX:LUN)(OMX:LUMI) ("Lundin" or the "Company") provides a summary of the results of the initial Future Underground Materials Handling Study (the "Study") for its Neves-Corvo mining complex in southern Portugal. This conceptual level study identified and evaluated the underground materials handling and access options necessary to pursue the exploitation of the deeper Lombador copper/zinc resources as well as the Semblana copper deposit which are adjacent to the Company's Neves-Corvo mine.

Extending Neves-Coro adds $100m to NPV: Lundin

Extending the Neves-Coro mine in Portugal will add $100 million to the net present value (NPV) and push the life of the mine into 2026, Lundin Mining (TSX:LUN) said today.

The company released the feasibility results for Lombador Phase 1, which plans to exploit the uppper portions of the Lombador zinc/copper ore bodies.

Lundin hit by production problems, higher costs in Portugal

Lundin Mining Corporation reported on Friday net income of $57.7 million for the second quarter of 2011, up 36% from the same quarter last year.

The numbers were below management expectations after lower than expected metal production and higher unit costs at its flagship Neves-Corvo copper mine in Portugal north of the city of Faro (pictured). Lundin said the Tenke Fungurume mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo, its first venture beyond Europe, should start contributing to cash flows in the third quarter.

Lundin revises production downward after hitting poor grades at Neves Corvo

Neves Corvo, Ludin Mining's copper-zinc mine located in Portugal, will produce 4,000 tonnes less copper and 19,000 tonnes less of zinc in 2011. The cash cost of production at the mine will also climb from $1.40 to $1.65.

Neves Corvo, which accounts for most of Lundin's copper output, was expected to produce 76,000 tonnes of copper and 25,000 tonnes of zinc. The outlook has now fallen to 72,000 tonnes of copper and 6,000 tonnes of zinc.

However, zinc production at the company's Irish mine, Galmoy, was expected to rise from 17,000 tonnes to 28,000 tonnes.
