Toyota to invest USD 150 million in lithium mining project

Toyota has announced it will invest USD 150 million in mining company Oro Cobre's lithium mining project located in Salar de Olaroz, Jujuy, Argentina.

Matamec receives second payment of CAD 1.1 million from Toyotsu Rare Earth Canada

Matamec Explorations Inc. today announced that it has received a second payment of CAD 1,119,776 (USD 1,120,778) from its Japanese partner Toyotsu Rare Earth Canada Inc. (TRECan), a subsidiary of Toyota Tsusho Corp. (TTC).

Japan and India have reached a basic agreement to jointly develop rare earths, used in the production of several high-tech goods from weapons to cell phones, and supply Tokyo with about 14% of its rare earth needs.

The U.S. decision last month to launch a Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Export initiative should turn out to be yet another boon for lithium producers, who are or will be trying to sell into a growing lithium ion battery market for technological and electric car uses.
