Industry Leader to Head Infrastructure Division at Fyfe

National consulting firm Fyfe has appointed respected industry leader Philip Verco to head its new infrastructure division.

Philip Verco, Director of Infrastructure Services- Fyfe

In his role as Director of Infrastructure Services, Mr Verco will be responsible for integrating and growing Fyfe’s civil infrastructure, structural engineering and environmental services.

The new division also incorporates services provided by civil engineering firm Allan Gilbert & Associates, which was purchased by Fyfe in 2001, and structural engineering firm Trevor John & Associates, acquired in 2012.

Mr Verco said establishing a new infrastructure division in the current market would clearly be a challenge, however an exciting one.

“Fyfe is a dynamic company with an embedded growth culture,” he said.

“It’s this culture on which I’m looking to build our infrastructure division across Australia.

“We’ve hit the ground running and already have some good prospects.”

Mr Verco said Fyfe was currently employing skilled professionals to build an already strong infrastructure team at a time when other companies in the industry were downsizing.

“Fyfe is a well-regarded brand within industry and there are some high quality CVs already coming across my desk from professionals wanting to join us,” he said.

Mr Verco said the infrastructure division aimed to make a significant contribution to Fyfe’s group turnover, which last calendar year was $67.4 million, up 25% on the previous year.

“Civil infrastructure is a critical component in building Australia’s economy – whether it’s oil and gas pipelines, wastewater treatment plants, urban developments, transport infrastructure or social infrastructure,” he said.

“Our structural engineering services are focussed on the property sector across industrial, commercial and residential, including apartments and specialised housing.

“Higher public scrutiny of companies’ environmental practices is driving a greater focus on environmental management plans, environmental impact statements and effective treatments for remediation of contaminated land.

“The environmental discipline is substantially a new service offering for Fyfe and represents a more focused approach on infrastructure, building on the strength of the existing civil and structural engineering services.

“By expanding across infrastructure we’re diversifying our business and building our quality offering to clients. Ultimately it’s about positioning Fyfe on a sustainable growth path for the long-term future of the company.”

With more than 35 years civil engineering experience, Mr Verco has worked in senior positions within the public and private sector.

Most recently he was Technical Director and Market Sector Leader for the Civil and Municipal Infrastructure Group of AECOM Australia and New Zealand. Mr Verco has also worked with the Department of Planning Transport and Infrastructure and been a part owner of engineering consulting company Dare Sutton Clarke (now SMEC).

Fyfe has also appointed Heath Sandland as Environmental Manager, reporting to Mr Verco.
