Lisheen Mine gears up for 'first of its kind' equipment auction in Ireland

THE second largest zinc mine in Europe, The Lisheen Mine in Co. Tipperary is preparing to sell the contents of all remaining equipment and materials at its site on 24th September by public auction, conducted by the largest independent auction company in Ireland & the UK, Wilsons Auctions.

With time running out for bidders to register for this unique onsite auction, the first of its kind to take place in Ireland, interest for the thousand items including dumptrucks, porter trucks, scalers, drill rigs and garage equipment has been gathering world-wide attention online from Ireland, the UK and as far away as Australia and the United States.

The Lisheen Mine, owned by Vedanta Resources, ceased operations in December 2015, with its last shipment taking place in January of this year.

The operation at The Lisheen Mine consisted of an underground mine, concentrator and backfill plant and produced approximately 300,000 tonnes of zinc concentrate and 38,000 tonnes of lead concentrate every year.

Ricky Wilson, Head of Irish Operations at Wilsons Auctions said, "This will be the first time an auction of this kind will have taken place on the Island of Ireland and we are delighted to have been tasked with the job. We are proud of our onsite auction reputation having conducted them in all counties throughout Ireland for all types of businesses and industries."

Viewings for the auction will take place on Thursday 22nd September, Friday 23rd September from 9am-5pm, with viewings available on the morning of the auction. The auction starts at 9.30am on the premises of The Lisheen Mine, Killoran, Moyne, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, Ireland.

All lots will be uploaded to the Wilsons Auctions website everyday in the lead up to the auction.  Interested bidders are welcome to register via an online form on the website where a member of the team will be in touch.
