PhotoSat completes mapping of Nova Copper’s Upper Kobuk project in Alaska.

PhotoSat is pleased to announce that it has completed satellite topography mapping of Nova Copper’s Upper Kobuk Mineral Project (UKMP) in northwestern Alaska, using stereo satellite photos from the WorldView-2 high-resolution imaging satellite.  The WorldView-2 satellite is owned by Digital Globe of Longmont, Colorado, a leading global provider of commercial high-resolution earth imagery products.  The satellite topography map consists of a topographic elevation point every metre and contours with 1 metre elevation intervals.  Based on comparisons between the stereo satellite elevation mapping and thousands of ground survey points on similar projects, the accuracy of the stereo satellite elevation mapping for areas of bare ground is expected to be better than 50 centimetres.  The stereo satellite topographic mapping and precision satellite ortho photos will be used for project geology, planning and engineering studies.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to apply cutting-edge satellite topographic mapping technology to advance Nova Copper’s Upper Kobuk Projects in Alaska.  This project appears to have the potential to become a major base metals mining district.  This project should provide significant economic benefits to Nova Copper’s shareholders as well as to the people of Alaska,” says PhotoSat president Gerry Mitchell.

About PhotoSat

PhotoSat is a team of geophysicists and associated geoscientists specializing in the computer processing of high definition elevation data from stereo satellite photos.  These detailed topographic maps are used for the identification, evaluation, and monitoring of natural resources and the planning and design of resource development projects and their related facilities and infrastructure.  Our goal is to provide satellite photos and derived highly accurate elevation and other datasets that enable decision makers in the resource industries to make better decisions in less time. Our principal clients are mining, oil and gas, engineering and environmental companies and government agencies.  For more information about PhotoSat click here.

About Nova Copper

Nova Copper Inc. is a base metals exploration company focused on exploring and developing the Ambler mining district in Alaska.  It is one of the richest and most prospective known copper-dominant districts located in one of the safest geopolitical jurisdictions in the world.  It hosts world-class VMS deposits that contain copper, zinc, lead, gold and silver, and carbonate replacement deposits which have been found to host high-grade copper mineralization. Exploration efforts have been focused on two deposits in the Ambler district – the Arctic VMS deposit with ~7% copper-equivalent grades and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit which contains Indicated Resources of 179 million lbs of copper and Inferred Resources of 3.3 billion lbs of copper at the Ruby Creek and South Reef zones.  Both projects are located within Nova Copper’s land package that spans approximately 143,000 hectares.  Nova Copper has formed a partnership with NANA Regional Corporation, Inc. (NANA), an Alaskan Native Corporation that provides a framework for the exploration and potential development of the Ambler Mining District in cooperation with the local communities. Their vision is to develop the Ambler mining district into a premier North American copper producer.
