Westhaven completes drilling on its Shovelnose gold project
Vancouver, B.C. – November 28, 2012 – Westhaven Ventures Inc. (TSX-V:WHN) is pleased to announce that it has completed drilling on its 16,421 ha Shovelnose gold property, located approximately 30 km south of Merritt, British Columbia. The drill program consisted of 5 holes, totaling 778 metres (2,567 feet) of diamond drilling.
The Tower Creek valley, a prominent structural feature located between the Tower and Mik zones, was identified as a priority target for further evaluation. This drill program intended to further evaluate this area, as well as targets within the property that have been identified based on gold and associated pathfinder element soil values including arsenic, antimony and mercury. Two holes tested the Tower Creek valley fault, two holes tested extensions of the Tower Zone mineralization detected in the 2011 drill program, and one hole tested a gold-in-soils anomaly 500 metres northeast of the Tower Zone. Drill hole collar locations are displayed on the enclosed plan map.
Hole SN-12-01 (122 metres) intersected the Tower Creek valley fault system in heterolithic pyroclastic tuffs. Hole SN-12-02 (152 metres) and SN-12-03 (122 metres) were each 30 metre easterly stepout holes from SH-11-007. Similar to the 2011 mineralization, drilling encountered a zone of silicification and sulphide bearing epithermal-type quartz stockwork veining in rhyolite tuffs from the surface to a depth of 60 metres. Hole SN-12-04 (236 metres) tested a possible extension of the Tower Zone mineralization 75 metres west of SN-12-07, extending across the Tower Creek valley fault. The hole intersected an extensive silicified zone from surface through the initial 120 metres, interpreted as a possible dilational fluid channelway for mineralization . Several quartz stockwork zones were encountered within the silicified zone and low levels of very fine sulphide mineralization was encountered throughout the hole. Hole SN-12-05 (146 metres) tested a possible structural extension of the main system, intersecting mainly pyroclastic ash tuffs with increasing silicification toward the bottom of the hole. Assays are pending.
In 2011, Westhaven drilled 7 holes, totaling 606 metres of diamond drilling. Gold mineralization was encountered across all seven of the holes. Drill Hole SH-11-007 on the Tower Zone intersected 0.21 g/t Au over 55.8 metres starting from surface. This mineralized zone was interpreted as evidence of a significant epithermal-type mineralized alteration system within the property. Prospecting conducted in 2011 uncovered a heavily veined, pyrite flooded siliceous rock that returned 6.8 g/t gold. This sample was located 300 metres south of a previously reported rock sample that returned 119.0 g/t gold and 271 g/t silver.
Shovelnose Gold Property Overview
The 16,412 ha Shovelnose gold property is a Au-Ag epithermal-style exploration target that covers prospective stratigraphy in the southern Spences Bridge Gold Belt (SBGB), a 110 km northwest-trending belt of felsic to intermediate volcanic rocks of the Cretaceous Spences Bridge group. Westhaven is currently working to earn up to a 70% interest in the property from Strongbow Exploration Inc., a TSX-V listed company. Please refer to the Company´s Filing Statement dated June 27, 2011 for further information about the Company, the Qualifying Transaction and the Shovelnose property.
