Whatever It Takes: How Powerscreen And Dealer SEMCHardware Delivered The Equipment To A Customer In Remote Suriname
DUNGANNON, N. IRELAND, August 13, 2009 — Powerscreen® crushing and screening equipment is used far and wide and its mobility helps ensure that it gets to where it's needed — that much is well known. For Powerscreen dealer SEMC Hardware, however, this meant moving a three stage, track mounted crushing and screening plant to its customer in Suriname, South America, via river barge. And this was no small move. The plant consists of three tracked crushers and four tracked screens.
For those needing a refresher in geography, Suriname is a former Dutch colony on Brazil's northern border with approximately 800,000 inhabitants. SEMC Hardware sold the equipment to a major Dutch civil construction company to process material from a new quarry located approximately 85 km from the capital of Paramaribo.
The machines shipped up the Suriname River consist of a Powerscreen® Pegson XA400S, Powerscreen® Warrior 1800, Powerscreen® Pegson 1300 Maxtrak, Powerscreen® Chieftain 2400, Powerscreen® Pegson XV350, Powerscreen® H6203R and a Powerscreen® Chieftain 1700.
The Pegson XA400S will be located at a new quarry which is on a mountain in the jungle. The main processing plant will be located on a quay at the side of the Suriname River. This will consist of a Warrior 1800 which will be used to create oversize rock for sea defence dykes. The undersize from the Warrior as well as any material not used for sea defences will be processed through the large aggregate plant. This part of the plant consists of a Pegson 1300 Maxtrak and Chieftain 2400 to remove the dust from the feed to the tertiary crusher. The plus 5 mm product from the Chieftain 2400 is fed directly to a Pegson XV350 to ensure that all the aggregate produced will be cubical. This makes it ideal for the production of high strength concrete and wearing course asphalt.
The Pegson XV350 will operate in closed circuit with a H6203R which uses the triple deck horizontal screen renowned for its high screening efficiency. Two product sizes will be made from the H6203R before the final sizes are produced on the Chieftain 1700.
Powerscreen won this contract against intense competition from a Chinese manufacturer, owing both to the equipment's track record of performance, together with the high level of customer support offered locally by SEMC Hardware. Powerscreen worked quickly to complete and shipped all the equipment to the docks within six weeks of receiving the order. The successful completion of this order demonstrates the Powerscreen team's ability to produce large, highly flexible, multistage crushing and screening plants that can be delivered and supported through its partnership with an extensive distribution network.
If a complicated multi-component plant like this can be delivered via river in remote Suriname, few if any locations would appear beyond the Powerscreen team's reach.
