The report shows that while China is self sufficient in aluminium metal and approaching self sufficiency in alumina, dependence on imported bauxite remains high despite rising output. The Simba W6 C rigs are equipped with a rig control system specially designed for in-the-hole hammer (ITH) applications

Focusing on high productivity, reliability and hole accuracy, Atlas Copco and LKAB have a common history in developing production drilling rigs for successively longer holes with a minimum of hole deviation. This focus has paved the way for increasing the distance between the sub levels. The Simba W469 rigs, introduced in 1995, have been working successfully in both Kiruna and Malmberget. In 2006/2007 these rigs were complemented by the Simba W6 C rigs. The Simba W6 C rig is specially adapted to the Wassara water driven in-the-hole hammer and gives long, straight holes with a minimum hole deviation of less than 1 percent. Besides long hole drilling, the Simba W6 C can also be modified for slot hole drilling, a method that is used in LKAB's Malmberget mine. The Simba W6 C rigs have now been in production for more than two years in LKAB's Kiruna and Malmberget mines and the results have so far lived up to the company's high expectations. The Simba W6 C rigs are equipped with a rig control system which optimizes the performance for in-the-hole hammer (ITH) applications. The Simba W6 C rigs offer unattended drilling in full fan automation, enabling the operator to supervise several drill rigs at the same time. In cases where manual operation is preferred, the rig's cabin offers a good working environment with air conditioning, vibration dampening and noise insulation. An important feature is the water pump system which gives high efficiency, low water spillage and low overall cost. An air venting system ensures long pump life, and the pump pressure control optimizes hammer efficiency and life length.

This huge mine represents 20% of the coal output of the entire country of Colombia. This is exceptionally good news for all heavy industries that require strong reliable roads that are also friendly to the environment. Metals Economics Group’s (MEG) recent Strategies for Gold Reserves Replacement study concludes that between 1999 and 2008 the world’s largest gold producers (those with production of 450,000 oz or more in 2008) overcame rising costs, equipment and labour shortages, electrical outages, wars, permitting hurdles, typhoons, political opposition, and other obstacles to replace almost twice their reserves lost through production. The group’s average cost of replacing reserves through a combination of acquisitions and exploration was $83/oz. Auctioneers (NYSE and TSX: RBA), the world's largest industrial auctioneer, sold more than 110 cranes and millions of dollars of other heavy equipment and trucks at its unreserved public auctions last week, including a CA$58 million (US$52 million) auction in Edmonton, Alberta (June 10 & 11, 2009) and a US$41 million auction in Houston, Texas (June 10 - 12). EDMONTON, ALBERTA - More than 4,700 people from 18 countries registered to bid on-site and online at the unreserved auction conducted by Ritchie Bros. at its permanent auction site in Edmonton, Alberta on June 10 & 11, 2009. The auction included more than 4,100 heavy equipment items and trucks and generated gross auction proceeds in excess of CA$58 million (almost US$52 million). Among the items sold: 33 hydraulic truck, crawler, rough terrain and other cranes, including two 2002 Liebherr 200-ton crawler cranes that sold for CA$800,000 (US$715,000) each. More than 1,500 of the bidders registered to bid online in real time. Online bidders purchased more than CA$18 million (US$16 million) of equipment - including an online bidder from Mexico who bought three cranes. Buyers from outside Alberta purchased CA$27 million (US$24 million) of equipment (47 percent of the total). "We had a really international crowd in Edmonton last week, with active bidding on both days over the internet," said Jake Lawson, Ritchie Bros. Regional Manager. "We had a fantastic lineup of equipment to sell, including a large selection of cranes that attracted bidders from Mexico, Europe, the Middle East and all over North America to the site. Now that construction and oilfield work in Alberta has slowed down a little, reaching that international market is even more important for equipment sellers." HOUSTON, TEXAS - Ritchie Bros. conducted the second auction at its new, larger permanent auction site in Houston, Texas from June 10 - 12, 2009, selling more than US$41 million of equipment and trucks over three days. Almost 2,700 people from 47 countries, including all 50 U.S. states, registered to bid in person (54 percent) or online (46 percent) on more than 3,200 items, including 56 cranes that sold to buyers from as far away as India and the Middle East. Online bidders purchased nearly US$15 million of equipment (36 percent of the total gross auction proceeds), setting a new Houston site record for online sales. Out-of-state buyers purchased more than US$22 million of equipment (55 percent), including more than US$13 million of equipment (35 percent) purchased by people from outside the United States. "We had a huge foreign contingent bidding in person and online at our Houston auction," said Alan McVicker, Ritchie Bros. Regional Manager. "Cranes were definitely the highlight. The crane market is clearly still strong: prices were solid and they went to buyers from all over the world. Construction and transportation equipment also sold well. (CWT) has petitioned the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to reconsider sections of FCC Docket 04-186, Unlicensed Operation in the TV Broadcast Bands Additional Spectrum for unlicensed devices below 900 MHz and in the 3 GHz band. The US Geological Survey (USGS) recently published its annual report of mining and quarrying trends in the US, Mining & Quarrying Trends, 2007 covers 58 non-fuel mineral commodities produced in the U.S., excluding coal, petroleum coke and related products. It found that total domestic mining and waste removal for non-fuel mineral materials production amounted to 5,351 Mt in 2007, an amount approximately equal to the figure for 2006. 3rd Generation Falcon SB technology are technically robust, metallurgically superior and fast becoming the preferred concentrator by plant superintendents across the globe.

Why?

Falcon technology continues to evolve with recently added wear parts that allow only certain sections of the bowl to be replaced easily and onsite.

Falcon's patented SB technology is the only technology that has a stratification zone (smooth wall) that is conical shaped that leads into the capture zone which is vertical.

Second generation conical type machines had two serious drawbacks. Firstly, these units with conical concentration zones suffer from extreme wear due to the cascading of slurry from one level to the next. Secondly the conical shape in a rotating field results in unequal fluidization pressure across the capture zone, causing losses due to zones of over and under pressure. Why did old designs use an inferior conical shape? The conical shape was needed to allow material to exit the bowl.

This uniqueness of the 3rd Generation Falcon SB design is its ability to transfer pulp past a vertical caputure zone, thus allowing a constant pressure field and vastly reducing abrasive wear. No competitor can come close to beating 3rd generation performance.

(CWT) has petitioned the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to reconsider sections of FCC Docket 04-186, Unlicensed Operation in the TV Broadcast Bands Additional Spectrum for unlicensed devices below 900 MHz and in the 3 GHz band. Carlson Wireless supports fixed wireless use of TV white space spectrum, while opposing those petitions that seek to add costs that could stifle white space use, particularly in rural area of the country where access to broadband facilities is often lacking. White spaces are frequencies allocated to a broadcasting service but not used locally. The FCC recently ruled that unlicensed devices which do not interfere with assigned broadcasts can operate in unused white spaces in the spectrum. CWT agreed with IEEE and the Wireless Internet Services Providers Association ("WISPA") that there are needs for several proposed changes to FCC language regarding issues such as minimum height for receive antennas, spectrum sensing requirements, interference to and from wireless microphones and sensing-only approval procedures. "We believe there is a real opportunity to provide significantly expanded broadband service to rural areas," said Jim Carlson CEO of CWT. "We agree with the White Spaces Coalition's proposition that movement in this direction is important if we are to bridge the digital divide." The White Spaces Coalition is an alliance of technology heavy hitters such as Microsoft, Google, Dell, HP, Intel, EarthLink and Samsung. Rusoro Mining has received a scoping study from Micon International that indicates favorable economics for an expansion of gold production to more than 500,000 oz/y from reserves and resources at the company’s 95%-owned Choco 10 mine and its Increible 6 deposit (4 km from Choco 10) in the El Callao district of Bolivar state, Venezuela. Choco 10 currently produces about 100,000 oz/y of gold. The scoping study indicates optimal results for an expansion utilizing the existing 5,000-mt/d processing plant plus a new 15,000 mt/d-facility. Auctioneers (NYSE and TSX: RBA) in North East, Maryland on June 24 & 25, 2009. Ritchie Bros. (www.rbauction.com), the world's largest industrial auctioneer, sold more than 3,200 heavy equipment items and trucks over two days, generating gross auction proceeds in excess of US$25 million. The auction featured a large selection of aerial and lifting equipment, including more than 750 scissorlifts, 250 boom lifts, 100 telescopic forklifts, 90 forklifts and 25 cranes. Almost 1,600 people registered to bid in person; more than 800 other people registered to bid online in real time. SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, and ADELAIDE, South Australia - June 30, 2009 - Boart Longyear (ASX: BLY) today announced the sale of certain of its sub-Saharan African operations to Tranter Energy and Mining Services (Pty) Limited, a subsidiary of Tranter Holdings (Pty) Limited. The business, to be renamed Tranter Rock Drills, consists of Boart Longyear's percussive rock drills and hard rock tools product lines for sub-Saharan Africa as well as all manufacturing operations located in Roodepoort, South Africa. The business generated approximately US$14 million in revenues in 2008. As a result of the sale, all 260 employees associated with the business are transferring to Tranter Rock Drills effective immediately. Boart Longyear will continue to supply rock drills and hard rock tools outside of the sub-Saharan Africa region, and under the terms of the sale, Tranter Rock Drills will become Boart Longyear's exclusive supplier of rock drills for a two-year period. Lighter, reliable structures with lower noise levels Key targets of the LIGHT program are to reduce the weight of structural solutions e.g. in mobile machinery and transportation equipment, improve their mechanical reliability as well as to create functional structural solutions that e.g. can reduce noise level of process machinery. Essential part of the solutions under development is to reduce life cycle environmental impact and CO2 emissions. Key research areas in the LIGHT program are material solutions for new light weight structures, their manufacturing methods (hybrid materials, honeycomb structures etc), prediction of mechanical reliability of materials and structures (fatigue resistance, fracture mechanics) as well as design principles for e.g. mobile units. LIGHT program time span is 2009-2013 and its total budget is 20 M€.
