
Pure Lithium Corporation has appointed Dr. Tobias Glossmann as chief product officer. Glossmann will lead product and technology strategy, guiding the translation of Pure Lithium’s battery science into engineered products and directing the company’s product engineering efforts.
Glossmann joins Pure Lithium after a 25-year career across Mercedes-Benz companies, most recently serving as Principal Systems Engineer at Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America.
His work spanned advanced battery technology development, from materials through complete battery systems, and he held companywide responsibility for high voltage safety. His career began in 2001 with battery systems development at DaimlerChrysler in Ulm, Germany, and later in Michigan, giving him more than two decades of experience across cell chemistry, thermal modeling, scientific computing, and battery systems engineering.
A recognized voice in the lithium metal battery field, Glossmann co-founded the annual Lithium Metal Battery Workshop, which brings together academia and industry to surface and address the technical challenges of commercializing lithium metal batteries.
He serves as an industry advisor to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Battery500 consortium, Chair of the Detroit Section of the Electrochemical Society, and on advisory bodies at the University of Michigan’s EV Center, Cornell University’s Center for Alkaline-Based Energy Solutions, and Stony Brook University’s College of Engineering. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed publications and holds several granted U.S. patents in energy storage.
Dr. Glossmann holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Missouri–Columbia, an M.S. in Chemistry from Oakland University, and a B.S./M.S. in Electronic/Mechatronic Engineering from Esslingen University, Germany.

He understands what it takes to get a battery into the most demanding applications, such as electric vehicles, and his grasp of lithium metal batteries, including the hard problems the field too often overlooks.”
