The open-pit gold mine is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and is operated by IAMGOLD. We are located near Gogama, Ontario, with access to stable infrastructure and strong connections with our local communities.

Engineer, Mining
Provide reliable, consistent and timely information pertaining to mine budgets, surveying, drill & blast, mine design and mine planning activities. Develop, calculate, design, engineer and schedule mining activities for Cote Gold. Report and communicate progress and participate in various mine projects and business improvement initiatives. Provide technical expertise, support and training to the junior mine engineers and technicians.
Key Responsibilities
Area 1:
Produce mining, drill & blast and infrastructure designs.
- Coordinate inputs from Exploration, Geology, Mine Operations and Mill Operations to produce effective plans and designs.
- Develop mine plans and mine designs consistent with industry best practices.
- Run pit optimization and simulation tools and interpret results.
- Assist in the development of business case scenarios and LOM including optimization of value.
- Produce daily, weekly, monthly and yearly bench design plans and update design change register.
- Produce mine layouts, drill and blast layouts and drawings.
- Coordinate survey pick-ups and mark-ups with the surveyor and technicians.
- Evaluate trade-offs and recommend solutions.
- Prepares reports and written materials related to technical recommendation and improvements to the mine plan and mine design.
- Other duties as required (ex. reporting, budgeting, projects, etc)
Area 2
Produce short, medium and/or long term mine schedules.
- Interface between stakeholders and translate information into mine schedule and Gantt chart.
- Keep production and scheduling activities up-to-date and produce forecasts when required.
- Impart best practices in planning activities.
- Provide guidance in daily field follow ups and ensure execution is compliant to plan.
- Oversee data and inputs from survey, drill and blast, MineStar and geology to adjust plan accordingly.
- Track and monitor completion of mining activities by checking the state of progress in the field, compliance to the plans and specifications issued and report completed work.
- Produce daily, weekly and monthly reports
Area 3
Work collaboratively with others to deliver innovative continuous improvement opportunities.
- Seek and implement best-in-class practices.
- Harness the advantages of the automated mining system and ensure technology is an integral part of the design and planning process.
- Propose new methods to meet challenges of mine engineering.
- Propose and improve the design to address mining constraints while remaining cost efficient.
- Keep abreast of trends in mine engineering and impart to Cote Gold.
- Provide new approaches, methods or policies to optimize performance and ensure compliance with industry regulations and organizational standards.
- Continuously seek to improve technical knowledge and skills.
- Conduct research and benchmarking to support decision-making and improve mining processes, technologies and methodologies used for the mine.
Safety & Sustainability Expectations
Maintain a cooperative interest in the health and safety of yourself, your fellow workers and local communities. Wear PPEs at all times if in production environments. Be alert and observe, correct and report unsafe conditions. Follow operating procedures and comply with all regulatory requirements. Ensure that work areas are in compliance with all of Iamgold’s Health and Safety policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Acts in the applicable jurisdiction. Intervene as necessary, to ensure the safety of others in the workplace. Provide safety leadership by always setting a good example.

Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves
Minimum Qualifications, Formal Education, Certifications Or Equivalents
- Post secondary degree in Mine Engineering or a related field is required.
- Registration as an Engineer in Ontario (PEO).
Work Experience – Nature & Length
- A minimum of 5 years of related work experience.
- Previous experience in open pit mining is considered an asset.
Additional Qualifications – Competency Requirements
- Proficiency in computer applications and mining softwares.
- A valid Ontario drivers license is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to work independently and in team settings.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.Good observational and analytical skills.
- Must be able to handle a high level of confidentiality.
Working Environment
- Some site and office work.
- Work involves limited exposure to disagreeable conditions.
- Physical environment is generally safe and there is minimal health risk.
- Some physical effort or considerable sensory demand.
