Reports to: MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR
Essential Functions
- Must understand the proper methods to be employed in replacing or maintaining typical heavy equipment. This includes, but is not limited to: Engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, hoses, cylinders, 12/24 volt electrical systems, tire and rim repair, and air systems.
- Must have general computer skills to diagnose heavy equipment.
- Must be able to read and understand Technical Manuals and prints.
- Must know general automotive. This includes but is not limited to: Brakes, tie rods, ball joints, springs, u-joints, etc.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance activities to maximize equipment reliability and lifecycle.
- Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
- Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
- Controls downtime by informing heavy equipment operators of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
- Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
- Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
- Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Provides mechanical information by answering questions and requests.
- Prepares mechanical reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.
- Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Other Functions
- Must have an understanding of and ability to operate heavy equipment
- Must be available for call-outs (have reliable transportation)
- Must be willing to work overtime and weekends
Education and/or Experience
- Candidates should have at least three years’ experience in the repair of heavy equipment, hydraulics,12/24 volt electrical systems, general automotive, etc. and possess a High School Diploma or GED.
- Possess a general industrial maintenance skill including but not limited to Millwright, Pipefitter, Outside Machinist, and/or Welder.
- Must be able to communicate job activities to others and pro-actively recognize and mitigate job hazards.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and work ethic.
- Ability to work in an outside environment in both high places and confined spaces.
