We are seeking an
Engineering Manager to join Rio Tinto’s Yarwun Alumina Refinery, based in the coastal town of Gladstone in Central Queensland.
You will lead the Discipline Engineering, Reliability and Capital Delivery teams at the refinery. This diverse portfolio provides a great opportunity for an experienced and established leader – someone who is committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive work environment.
This team drives the development and implementation of sustainable engineering discipline standards that govern the management of the organisation’s physical assets through an asset’s entire lifecycle. This work ensures safe, cost effective and reliable design and installations are implemented and maintained at the refinery.
Reporting to the
General Manager Operations, you will;
- Lead and design an effective asset management function aligning people, processes, systems, technology, measures and benchmarks
- Role model collaboration to build effective relationships and drive continuous improvement for engineering solutions and strategies
- Monitor and review asset management process and performance, including asset health and risk
- Provide technical discipline support to projects and operations
- Lead the development and deployment of the Rio Tinto Discipline Engineering framework and programme aligned with Rio Tinto Risk Management and Assurance framework
- Lead the development and integration of the Discipline Engineering framework into Rio Tinto's Asset Management standard and framework, including developing discipline specific engineering standards/performance standards and associated assurance.
What You’ll Bring

- Significant leadership experience in a similar role
- Depth of experience working within an asset management framework
- Tertiary qualifications within Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or other relevant technical discipline
- Experience using business improvement methodologies such as KAIZEN, Lean Six Sigma and Change Management would be beneficial
- Ability to navigate SAP would be helpful.

Where you’ll be working
Located in Central Queensland, approximately 10km north-west of Gladstone, Yarwun alumina refinery commenced operations in 2004. Processing bauxite from our mines in Weipa and Gove, Yarwun produces more than three million tonnes of smelter grade alumina annually.
As one of the largest industries in the Gladstone region, Yarwun employs over 700 people and has a large contractor workforce.
With a focus on safely improving our process every day, the team at Yarwun challenge themselves to use existing and emerging technology to support our 24 hour operation.
