Wood is currently looking for a Road Safety Specialist to join our team in Basra, Iraq on a 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off rotational work
Purpose of subject position
Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive road safety management system to ensure all road transportation activities meet company and international safety standards.
Reduce traffic incidents and related risks through road safety programs and educational initiatives, ensuring the safety of company employees and contractors.
Promote and oversee the implementation of road safety compliance and best practices, fostering a culture of safe driving.
Responsibilities

- Assess existing road safety policies and procedures, propose improvements, and ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.
- Design and implement road safety training and awareness programs to educate employees and contractors on safe driving behaviors.
- Monitor road transportation activities, conduct safety audits and inspections, and ensure drivers and vehicles meet company safety requirements.
- Investigate traffic incidents, analyze root causes, prepare reports, and recommend preventive measures to reduce future accidents.
- Develop and implement traffic safety initiatives, including speed management, fatigue management, and alcohol and drug control programs.
- Regularly analyze road traffic data to identify high-risk areas and behaviors and implement targeted measures to mitigate risks.
- Manage the selection and maintenance of vehicle safety equipment, ensuring all vehicles are equipped with necessary safety tools such as GPS tracking and onboard cameras.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with local traffic authorities to stay informed about the latest road safety policies and trends.
- Develop and lead internal road safety campaigns to promote a culture of safe driving
- Prepare and maintain road safety manuals and guidelines, ensuring all employees are aware of and comply with safety regulations.
- Provide road safety consultation and support, assisting project teams in mitigating risks associated with special road transport projects.
- Participate in vendor management, ensuring road transportation contractors meet the company’s safety standards and requirements.
Qualifications
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Traffic Engineering, Road Safety Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in road safety-related roles, with preference given to candidates with experience in the oil and gas industry.
- Familiarity with road safety regulations and international standards (e.g., ISO 39001).
- Ability to independently analyze accident data and develop corrective measures.
- Road safety-related certifications are preferred.
Skills
- Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and report-writing skills, capable of deriving insights from data and providing actionable solutions.
- Proficiency in using office software and road safety monitoring systems (e.g., GPS tracking tools).
- Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple road safety projects simultaneously and driving continuous improvement.
- Training and coaching abilities to enhance road safety awareness and skills among company employees.
- Strong English writing and speaking skills, with the ability to draft reports and communicate effectively with international teams
