Coded Welder. The Coded Welder role provides an engineering technical service to the company. This coded welder position is responsible for execution of welding tasks on hand in accordance with specified procedures. The coded welder position could be required to fulfil a shift role on a process plant.

Job Description
Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Welding, maintenance and steel work repair execution General welding tasks:
- Operate an automatic welding machine
- Identifying, maintaining and using cutting forming, measuring and fasting tools
- Identifying, maintaining and using cutting forming, measuring and fasting tools
- Using power tools safely and efficiently
- Using and caring of cutting machines
- Ensure that the correct tools are used to complete tasks
- Ensure that materials and equipment are available for the shifts requirements in the area
- Ensure the safe and proper running of all machinery and equipment are conducted
- Complete and sign off all allocated works orders
- Ensure that all planned maintenance schedules are accurately performed
- Ensure that all safety and legal requirements are carefully followed
- Ensure that the prescribed safety equipment is always worn
- Supervise allocated team members in order to complete assigned work tasks
- Ensure that all work conducted is performed to the required standards and specifications
Cutting metals:
- Cutting preparation cuts, using the oxy-acetylene gas cutting process
- Cutting ferrous and non ferrous materials with a plasma arc cutter
- Identify and select material to specification
- Prepare and assemble welding equipment relating to welding procedures
- Cut metal with oxy-fuel gas cutting process (manual cutting)
- Cut material using the oxy-fuel profile cutting machine
- Cut material using the oxy-fuel strait line cutting machine
Coded welding/welding metals:
- Perform destructive testing on welded specimens
- Weld work pieces with the gas metal arc welding process in all positions
- Weld work pieces with combination weld processes using shielded metal arc welding gas tungsten arc welding
- Timely and accurate information
- Effective systems for management and technical control used
- Reports completed to required standard
- Weld with flux core welding process in all positions
- Groove welds with manual metal arc
- Develop (weld and repair) a steel pipe construction
- Gouging defective welds on materials according to procedure with arc air process
- Gouge material with air-carbon-arc metal arc gouging process
- Remove material with the shield metal arc gouging process
- Braze metals using the oxy-fuel gas welding process
- Join sheet metal with resistance arc welding process
- Metal insert gas welding
- Code weld fillets with metal insert gas
- Code weld fillets and grooves with gas tungsten arc welding
Teamwork through the ability to:
- Ensure that any operational problem that is encountered is reported even if outside immediate area of responsibility
- Inform the Supervisor when work is being conducted in the area of responsibility
- Be available for after hours standby duty
- Identify opportunities to improve operations
- Participation in improvement projects
- Support efforts to overcome operational problems
- Identify risks and threats to the process proactively
- Communicate plant defects to the Supervisor or Engineering Superintendent: Electrical/instrumental via notifications
- Ensure that employees have clear work expectations and plans
- Ensure that employees work in a safe environment
- Communicate process problems to necessary people
- Support BA team members if they require help
- Help the engineering employees to maintain equipment in Area
- Ensure effective two way communications with team members
Maintenance administration through the ability to:
- Obtain daily and weekly work instructions from Supervisor
- Prepare and plan work priority list and resource requirements in order to complete tasks
- Ensure that all resources requirements are communicated to Supervisor in order to complete allocated work orders
- Compile an accurate shift/work order reports
- Ensure that technical data is accurate
- Complete requisitions for stock items required
- Complete the necessary job cards relating to the task done including and description of work and spares used
- Accurately complete role administration requirements
- Communicate any stumbling blocks to the appropriate Supervisor
- Assist the Risk Officer in safety, injury, hazard and incident reports for area
- Participate in required meetings including safety
This role is at aC2 level reporting to the Engineering Foremen
Qualifications
- Matric will be an added advantage
- Must complete the specific procedure training for the area that the person has or will be appointed in.
- Certified Competent as a Coded Welder – CO2 and Argon welding (Annual re-assessment for re-codification is required for this role)
Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in Boiler-making
Knowledge And Skills
- Structural Drawing Interpretations
- Basic Boiler-making
- Knowledge of Materials of Construction will be an added advantage
- Valid driving license code 08
