About The Role
We are looking for a
Technical Advisor – Load & Haul Maintenance (1) to play a leading role in upskilling our national workforce. The primary focus of this role is to work side by side with the workforce, coaching and mentoring employees in managing the maintenance function effectively and sustainably. This role will be key in ensuring compliance with Rio Tinto standards for the Underground Road Train fleet, supporting to maintain reliable and fit-for-purpose equipment to support production targets.
This position follows 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off international FIFO roster. Reporting to the Superintendent – Load and Haul Mobile Maintenance, key responsibilities include
- Ensures compliance with safety standards and procedures.
- Providing technical expertise on Mercedes-Benz prime movers and road train trailers.
- Working closely with the national workforce, mentoring technicians on day-to-day maintenance, repairs, and fault diagnosis of Mercedes-Benz prime movers and trailers.
- Collaborating with factories and service providers to deliver a technical upskilling development program for the national workforce.
- Solving technical and complex problems by working closely with crew supervisors, technicians, engineers, subject matter experts, and other teams.
- Identify and evaluate opportunities for improvement. Implement and support Rio Tinto best practices.
What You Will Bring
- Strong knowledge of safety awareness in a mining environment.
- Trade certificate in Mechanical, Electrical, or Engineering qualification.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in repairing heavy road transport and trailers.
- High-level expertise in engine, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical fault system diagnosis.
- Experience working with diverse cultures and a strong focus on coaching and mentoring teams.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple work fronts.
- High level of computer literacy (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Experience using SAP for work management is an asset.
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
It would be beneficial if you have
- Extensive experience maintaining and repairing Mercedes-Benz trucks and road trains.
- Experience working in international environments.
- Previous experience mentoring supervisors and tradespeople in all aspects of mobile equipment maintenance.
Where you will be working
Oyu Tolgoi is an operating Copper / Gold open pit mine with a brownfields underground mining project. The site is located in the Gobi desert region of Mongolia. The reserves case for the underground project is in the order of 0.5 billion tonnes of ore to be mined from the 95,000 tonnes per day Hugo North Lift 1 (HNL1) panel cave mine with a 20 year operations life. There is also the potential for 3 further block cave districts to increase mine life beyond 100 years.
