Job description:
Job Purpose
To perform electrical installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of plant equipment and systems in a safe, efficient, and compliant manner. The Artisan Electrician contributes to plant reliability by ensuring electrical infrastructure operates optimally to support continuous production.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine and corrective maintenance on motors, switchgear, transformers, MCCs, lighting, and control systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair faults in low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical systems.
- Assist with new equipment installations and electrical modifications during shutdowns or upgrades.
- Perform testing of electrical systems using appropriate tools (insulation testers, multimeters, earth testers).
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with company safety standards and electrical regulations.
- Follow proper lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures and conduct hazard identification before commencing work.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings and schematic diagrams.
- Record all completed tasks and faults in the maintenance management system (e.g., SAP or Pronto).
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or damaged equipment to the supervisor.
- Maintain housekeeping standards and safe work practices in the work area.
- Support team members during emergency repairs, plant shutdowns, or large projects.
Qualifications
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate
- Craft Certificate or Advanced Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
- Valid ZESCO/ERB practicing licence
- Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) is an added advantage
Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ practical experience in an industrial or mining plant environment
- Sound knowledge of motor control, cable termination, and panel wiring
- Experience with CMMS (SAP or Pronto) and basic reporting
- Exposure to variable speed drives (VSDs), soft starters, and plant automation systems is a plus
Skills and Competencies
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Strong fault-finding and electrical troubleshooting ability
- Knowledge of electrical codes and safety regulations
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Basic computer literacy (email, MS Word/Excel for reporting)
