Job description:
PURPOSE
To safely execute maintenance work in accordance with prescribed standards, while ensuring the safety of oneself and others.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere to all relevant company requirements, policies, procedures, and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment, and quality—as well as finance, human resources, and other applicable areas.
- Cut, thread, and hammer pipes to specifications using tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders, and benders.
- Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment as per specifications by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints.
- Attach pipes to walls, structures, and fixtures—such as radiators or tanks—using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment.
- Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
- Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading.
- Lay out full-scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, and related equipment by following blueprints.
- Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repairs according to specifications.
- Select appropriate pipe sizes, materials, supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders according to requirements.
- Cut and bore holes in structures such as bulkheads, decks, walls, and mains prior to pipe installation using hand and power tools.
- Modify, clean, and maintain pipe systems, units, fittings, and related machinery and equipment as per specifications using hand and power tools.
- Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for all direct reports, with a particular focus on Zambian employees.
- Perform other duties as instructed by the Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate
- Craft Certificate or Advanced Certificate in Mechanical Fitting from an accredited institution
- Membership with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) is an advantage
- Valid certification in rigging, working at heights, or confined space (desirable)
