Our Opportunity

Roster : 5:2

We are looking for a Senior Project Geologist to join our Exploration and Resource Characterisation team to advance orebody knowledge and implement material characterisation practices for the Belinga Iron Ore project.

The project is potentially one of the largest iron ore projects globally. Fortescue is carrying out exploration activities on the project through its partially owned subsidiary, Ivindo Iron SA.

This role plays a critical part in the successful execution of the exploration work program.

The primary responsibility is to assist processing of drill core and undertake geological logging and sampling to support metallurgical test work programs.

The role is based in Perth and you will be required to complete work at the office and external laboratories.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the value chain from resource to product by determining and communicating the material mineralogy and its effect on mining and processing to relevant stakeholders.
• Coordination, planning and supervision of characterisation studies at external laboratories, in particular metallurgical sample selection (compositing) and textural hand sorting.
• Interpretation and analysis of Hylogger and core scanning data
• Integrate geoscientific data collected on diamond drill cores and investigate material characteristics to develop geometallurgical domains.
• Ensure the timely completion of concise and clearly communicated geological and department reporting
• Work with and mentor both geologists and metallurgists to ensure activities are completed to the highest technical standards.

Qualifications and Experience

• Tertiary qualification in geology or equivalent
• Good safety culture and risk perception.
• Demonstrated experience in iron ore geology, minerology and different mineralisation styles
• Experience with RC and diamond drill core logging
• Skilled in GIS software, preferably ArcGIS, Leapfrog and with exposure to exploration geostatistical packages (ioGAS or other) and acquire database.
• Concise and efficient report writing and other geological documentation
• Experience and understanding of digital core scanning technologies and spectral interpretation (Hylogger, Corescan, Minalyze)
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of advanced mineralogical mapping technologies (e.g. TIMA, MLA, QEMScan)
