The Kipushi Project S.A. is looking for a Managerial Leader I, Shaft Engineering
The Kipushi Project, in the DRC's province of Haut-Katanga and southeast of the company's Kamoa discovery, is adjacent to the town of Kipushi and approximately 30 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital of Lubumbashi. Ivanhoe Mines acquired its 68% interest in the Kipushi Project in November 2011; the balance of 32% is held by the DRC's state-owned mining company, Gécamines.
The Kipushi Project is based on the high-grade, underground zinc-copper mine in the Central African Copperbelt, which mined approximately 60 million tonnes grading 11% zinc and 7% copper between 1924 and 1993. In addition to producing copper and zinc, the mine produced 12,673 tonnes of lead and approximately 278 tonnes of germanium between 1956 and 1978.

To manage a world class trackless mining operation. Ensure the safe mining of a massive Zinc ore-body with ultra high Zinc grade between depths of 1200 and 1600 meters below surface. To manage the mining, engineering and technical services team in their day to day activities as well as providing senior leadership to the mining operation.
The team is a multi-national composition of national and expatriate employees.A mining contractor is responsible for the mining operation including the maintenance of the trackless fleet. Ore transport is conducted by dump trucks utilising a decline transport configuration and horizontal transport.
Ore is conveyed by conveyor belts from an underground crusher to the vertical shaft.
Oversee the maintenance aspects of engineering which falls under the Shaft and Trackless mine Engineer. In addition to the contractor management, it is required to manage the owners team of technical services, safety management and ore handling systems maintenance and operations.
To ensure short, medium and long term planning is effective to support a sustainable operation.
To manage the Mining contractor as the Engineer in terms of Fidic. This role manages mine overseers [directly] and Mine Technical Services [indirectly]. Manage back-filling of stopes and ore reserve management goals.
You will have the following:
- Mine Managers Certificate of Competency for Hard Rock Mines
- Degree or National Diploma [Mining/Engineering]
- 15 Years Production Mining experience [Mechanised and Underground] with 10 years mine management exposure on an operating production mine.
- Excellent track record and similar experience in African countries advantageous.
You will have advanced skills and knowledge in:
- Contractor Management
- Commercial and Business Knowledge
- Business management
- Knowledge of Ventilation, Surveying/Sampling, Geology and Mine Design and Scheduling
- Management experience in underground hard rock mining [at least 15 years]
- Mine Planning experience
- Budgeting and cost management
- Engineering maintenance systems
- Production related experience – trackless mining
Technical Skills should include:
- Mechanised Mining experience
- Knowledge of different mining methods

Process: Lead, coordinate and manage the mining functions within the operations
- Maintain effective and efficient mining extraction strategies, plans and governance systems
- Lead tactical direction setting and plan for the business area in alignment to the company's strategy
- Design, establish and integrate effective governance structures, polices, plans and frameworks for mining
- Lead the establishment of operational directions and ensure business sector planning in accordance with corporate strategy
