About Cadia
Our Cadia Valley Operation in New South Wales is situated about 25 kilometers from Orange and 250 kilometers west of Sydney. Cadia produces gold doré bars from a gravity circuit and gold-rich copper concentrates from a flotation circuit. The operation includes the Cadia East Mine which is globally renowned for its use of block caving, a large-scale underground mining method.

Newmont is seeking a Supervisor - Water Planning (Site Water Lead) to join our Tailings and Water team at Cadia. This site-based leadership role plays a critical part in supporting ore processing and tailings deposition operations while providing overarching stewardship of water management across the operation..
You will operate as the site’s accountable water management authority, partnering broadly across functions to deliver safe, sustainable and compliant water outcomes aligned with operational and corporate expectations. — all while leading with safety at the forefront.
About the Role
Reporting to the Superintendent – Tailings, this role is responsible for leading the implementation of site and global water strategies, monitoring water performance, and embedding water management into daily operations and mine planning.
Operating at a senior level, this position partners with operational, technical, environmental, social performance and corporate teams, while engaging directly with external stakeholders including Engineers of Record and relevant governance bodies.
As the site Water Lead, you will coordinate cross-functional inputs, chair governance forums, and ensure alignment with regulatory, internal and public water commitments — providing clear direction and strategic oversight across the operation.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Demonstrate visible safety leadership and foster a strong safety culture across operations
- Provide Oversight of KPIs across safety, environment, community, production and cost performance
- Lead implementation of site and global water strategies, action plans and targets
- Oversee and validate site water balance data to optimise water use, efficiency and water quality in line with plans and approvals
- Chair site water committee meetings and communicate impacts to the water balance
- Own and continuously improve the Site Water Management Plan and supporting documents
- Partner with operations leadership to integrate water management into mine planning and daily activities
- Provide strategic input into studies, projects and sustaining capital planning
You’re a practical and collaborative leader with a strong grounding in water management within a mining or industrial environment. You’re comfortable working with data, plans and people, and you know how to balance operational delivery with compliance and sustainability commitments.
You will bring:
- A qualification in Environmental Science, Engineering, Earth Science, Hydrology or a related discipline
- Experience in tailings planning or operations, or water management, or water balance analysis
- Strong understanding of surface and groundwater monitoring, reporting and trend analysis
- Proven ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and influence outcomes
- Well-developed communication, coaching and stakeholder engagement skills
This is a residential 5/2 or 5/2-4/3 role in Orange and the preference is that suitable applicants will have unrestricted Australian working rights.
