About The Role
We are seeking a talented Finance Director to support and improve our financial controls, reporting accuracy, business performance, and standalone readiness. This role is a great opportunity to join a high impact team and contribute to the success of Rio Tinto Borates as we build a standalone finance capability.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer you will
- Lead the development of a standalone site finance organization, establishing the reporting, controls, and financial infrastructure.
- Own the end-to-end financial close, reporting, and controllership processes, ensuring accurate, timely, and decision-useful financial information supported by strong internal controls and audit readiness.
- Lead financial planning and analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, performance reporting, and variance analysis, providing actionable insights to operational and executive leadership.
- Drive cost discipline and performance improvement initiatives, partnering with operations and procurement to identify cost reduction opportunities and embed sustainable financial accountability across the business.
- Provide rigorous financial analysis and recommendations to support capital allocation decisions, investment prioritization, and long-term value creation initiatives.
- Establish and strengthen financial governance, reporting cadence, and performance metrics aligned with the expectations of a high-performance operating model.
- Build, lead, and develop a growing finance team, including recruitment, organizational design, capability development, and leadership of newly established functions.
- Partner closely with senior leadership to support standalone readiness activities, including the transition of finance responsibilities currently supported by corporate teams.
- Foster a high-performance finance culture characterized by accountability, accuracy, continuous improvement, and proactive commercial partnership.
About You
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have
- CPA qualification with a strong technical accounting and controllership foundation, including experience overseeing financial close, reporting, and audit processes.
- Demonstrated experience leading finance teams in complex operational environments, preferably within manufacturing, industrial, mining, chemicals, or similar sectors.
- Proven track record strengthening financial controls, reporting accuracy, and governance, with a strong focus on data integrity and decision-quality financial information.
- Experience driving cost optimization, performance improvement, or financial transformation initiatives that deliver measurable business impact.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate financial insight into clear business recommendations and influence senior operational stakeholders.
- Experience building or scaling finance functions, including organizational design, recruitment, and capability development.
- Ability to operate effectively in high-growth, transformational, or organizational change environments, demonstrating resilience, ownership, and a results-oriented mindset.
- Exposure to private-equity environments, separation activities, or standalone readiness programmes is advantageous but not required.
- MBA or advanced business qualification is beneficial.
