Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario. The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About The Role
Position: Underground Electrical Engineer
Schedule: 4/3 - 10 hour days
Position Reports To: Senior Electrical Engineer
Position Overview
The Underground Electrical Engineer is a key member of the Rainy River Mine Electrical Team and will report to the Senior Underground Electrical Engineer who, along with the Underground Electrical General Foreman, coordinates tasks in the office and in the field. The successful applicant will work at the Rainy River Mine site .
The position will primarily provide electrical support to the Rainy River Mine Electrical Team in executing electrical maintenance on the existing underground electrical distribution, along with the continuing expansion of the underground electrification infrastructure. The role also supports the engineering integrity, reliability, and safe operation of underground and surface electrical systems ranging from 600 V up to 13.8 kV, including substations, switchgear, hoists, protection and control systems, and associated automation assets .
Key Responsibilities
- Review and understand underground project requirements, design layouts, and electrical single-line diagrams.
- Assist with the design and execution of underground mine electrification.
- Perform field inspections, measurements, and engineering calculations.
- Complete and maintain arc flash analysis using EasyPower or ETAP.
- Support load flow, short circuit, and protection coordination studies.
- Perform routine CAD work on electrical schematics and single-line drawings.
- Utilize Document Control (InEight) for electrical documentation.
- Assist with ESA inspections and close non-compliance items.
- Support testing, inspection, and maintenance of underground electrical systems.
- Oversee small contractor-executed electrical projects.
- Liaise with the Fixed Plant Electrical Maintenance Team.
- Support commissioning and project turnover.
- Promote continuous improvement in reliability and electrification.
- Comply with electrical codes, safety standards, and site policies.
- Promote health and safety participation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- P.Eng required.
- Minimum 3 years underground mining or heavy industrial experience.
- Knowledge and experience with Ontario Electrical Safety Code and CSA M421, use of electricity in mines.
- Exposure to MV/HV electrical distribution systems.
- Experience with SCADA, PLCs, VFDs is an asset.
- Knowledge of CAD and Microsoft Office programs.
- Strong communication, organization, and safety focus.
- Ability to take initiative with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision while delivering superior results.
- Organized and self-directed, task and goal oriented.
- Valid Ontario G class driver’s license with a clean driving abstract.
The anticipated salary for this position will be between $110,000 to $130,000.
