Business Intelligence Manager – Shanghai, China
We are currently seeking a Business Intelligence Manager to join our team in Shanghai. This role will be pivotal in leading SQM’s market intelligence efforts across China and the APAC region, leveraging advanced analytics, AI-driven insights, and strategic partnerships to enable superior decision-making and commercial performance.
You will play a key role in supporting our Strategic Growth initiatives, digital transformation, and global alignment, while ensuring SQM anticipates market shifts and strengthens its leadership in iodine.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and define iodine market dynamics, including supply-demand balance, pricing trends, competitive landscape, recycling developments, derivative markets, and alternative sources across China and APAC
- Develop and implement AI-driven demand forecasting models and scenario planning tools, leveraging China-specific datasets and advanced analytics platforms (e.g., Databricks)
- Build and manage strategic relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, universities, research centers, industry associations, and the Chilean-Chinese Chamber of Commerce
- Partner with the Sales Director China to support strategic account planning, pricing strategies, customer segmentation, and growth initiatives
- Ensure strong on-the-ground market intelligence through direct engagement with customers, distributors, downstream users, and industry events
- Deliver periodic and ad-hoc intelligence reports to HQ, regional leadership, and the global BI team, ensuring alignment with global methodologies and standards
Requirements
- 5–10 years of experience in market intelligence, strategy, consulting, or commercial intelligence roles (preferably within chemical or mining industries)
- Degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus)
- Strong experience with AI tools and data analytics platforms (Databricks is a plus)
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word)
- Fluent English (mandatory); Mandarin is highly desirable
- Knowledge of trade regulations in China/APAC and iodine industry regulations is a plus
