About the Job:
Operating in a Northern British Columbia mining environment on a two week in/two week out shift rotation, the Exploration Drill Supervisor is an integral part of the Exploration Department at the Silvertip Operation. The candidate will be a part of the Coeur Silvertip Exploration Team, both underground and surface, and will work with drilling contractor management and site HSE Team to ensure all drilling activities are planned, executed and communicated across departments with a focus on cost-management, efficiency, safety, and high data quality to support the goals of Coeur Mining.
Responsibilities:
- Be a safety and environmental leader, trainer, and champion.
- Work with corporate Drilling Manager to align with company’s policies and procedures.
- Maintain relationships with drilling companies, conduct regular meetings as required.
- Host program kick-off meeting(s) to ensure alignment with exploration expectations.
- Scheduling pad construction, restoration, and related logistics with drilling contractors and site teams.
- Manage materials and consumables.
- Drill cost tracking and management to ensure we are utilizing our funds in the most effective way possible (CorePlan).
- Ensure the correct management of drilling operations by optimizing assets and equipment, and by supervising the execution of the activities of drilling contractors.
- Know and understand best drilling practices; independently initiate troubleshooting and provide advice on managing difficult conditions to maintain and monitor high-quality core recovery, including use of drill additives (muds), bit types, and pumping rates.
- Liaise with operations to build good working relationships and to ensure drill sequencing works with operation plans.
- Understand drill mechanics and develop best practices with the geologists for drilling the site-specific units.
- Assist with RFP process and contracting with corporate Exploration team.
- Non-drill time responsibilities: update contract with improvements based on previous campaign lessons learned; prepare for next campaign, completing all environmental and associated pad logistics; assist with core shack improvements, sample storage, and any other items as requested.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience as a Drilling Superintendent for 10 to 20 years with an independent or major core drilling company.
- Previous experience with underground, surface and helicopter-supported drilling is required.
- Have extensive industry training and drilling program management. Previous experience with CorePlan or similar platforms is preferred.
- Have detailed and demonstrated technical knowledge of core drilling including orientated core.
- Have detailed and hands on experience core drilling with a detailed understanding of drilling techniques and equipment.
- Have detailed understanding of drill bits, drilling motors and the relation of the drilling rig circulating system to these tools.
- Have detailed understanding and hands on experience with various mud systems.
- Be familiar with cost reporting and cost verification as it pertains to approval of company expenditures.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple drilling rigs at one time in a safe and cost-effective manner.
- Understand and demonstrate leadership in all aspects of managing a HSE compliant operation without sacrificing operational efficiency.
- Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with other employees and contractors using tact, courtesy, and good judgement.
- Applicants should be able to demonstrate their ability to work and live in Canada indefinitely; a full, valid Canadian Driver’s License is required.
- This role is site-based on a 14-day rotation, 12 hr day basis. It is expected that minor amount of work time off-site will be performed on an occasional basis.
Additional Information:
- Willing to work a two-week rotation schedule, with 12-hour shifts per day at a remote camp.
- Eligible for Annual Bonus Incentive Program.
- Our current designated marshalling locations are Vancouver, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Calgary, Edmonton, Whitehorse, Teslin, and Watson Lake.
