Job Description
The Area Manager leads a portfolio of mining services projects across multiple client sites, ensuring safe execution, operational performance, and commercial results. This role owns client relationships in the region, coaches project leaders, drives positive safety culture, and delivers against cost, schedule, quality and productivity targets. The incumbent holds strong mining operations knowledge and financial acumen and proven experience scaling teams in a contractor setting.
Responsibilities
Business Development & Tendering
- Participate in the tendering process in close collaboration with the Estimating team to acquire new business.
- Responsible for marketing and business development activities within the assigned business area.
- Generate new business within the area, contributing to regional growth objectives.
Project Start-Up
- Ensure successful start-up of all new projects by organizing and leading kick-off meetings, ensuring participation from Safety, Project Services, Human Resources (HR), Procurement, and other key stakeholders.
- Assign or approve Project Superintendents and partner with HR to ensure appropriate staffing is in place.
- Collaborate with Procurement and the Mobile Shop to ensure required equipment, materials, and supplies are secured.
Project Performance & Delivery
- Accountable for overall project performance, including safety, cost, schedule, production, quality, and client satisfaction.
- Monitor project progress and drive performance improvements across all assigned sites.
- Optimize allocation of people, equipment, and resources to meet project targets.
- Ensure accurate reporting of production, progress, and financial results.
- Implement cost-control measures, monitor variances, and drive initiatives to improve financial performance.
Client & Contract Management
- Serve as the primary client interface (the “face” of Redpath) within the area.
- Build, maintain, and strengthen client relationships to support successful execution and future business opportunities.
- Participate in contract negotiation, including scope, commercial terms, payment and project schedules, and responsibilities.
- Manage contract obligations to ensure all parties fulfill their commitments.
- Identify and address contractual risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
Leadership & People Development
- Lead, motivate, and manage project teams to achieve project goals and deadlines.
- Manage personnel behaviour and uphold company values, expectations, and performance standards.
- Ensure policies, procedures, and operating standards are understood and implemented consistently.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Advocate for innovation in mining processes, equipment use, and operational methods.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, efficiency, and project outcomes.
- Ensure company systems, policies, and procedures are applied consistently across all sites.
Qualifications
Education:
Required: Secondary School diploma with extensive experience and training
Preferred: Post-secondary education in Mining Engineering (Technician or Technologist diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree)
Work Experience
10 years of related experience and responsibility in a similar environment or a combination of education and progressive related experience/responsibility with at least 3 years in a Project Superintendent or Project Manager role.
Knowledge Required
- Demonstrated success in a contractor environment delivering to client KPIs under strict safety and regulatory frameworks.
- Strong commercial skills: budgeting, cost control, contract management, and claims/change-order negotiation.
- Technical familiarity with one or more of: underground development, shaft/raise, mine services, production drilling and blasting, backfill, shotcrete, dewatering, mobile fleet maintenance.
- Proficiency with operational reporting tools and MS Office/Power BI (or similar).
- Experience with Indigenous and community engagement.
- Project Management and Controls knowledge
- Strong financial analysis capabilities.
- Proven ability to coach, mentor and develop people.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact with clients, peers, and team members.
- Possess strong knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements within the operating region.
- Bilingualism is an asset
