Job Description
The
Data Team Lead is responsible for coordinating and supporting the delivery of data engineering and reporting capabilities within the Connected Data program.
This role provides day-to-day guidance to Data Engineers and Power BI Developers, ensuring work is aligned to project priorities, timelines, and delivery milestones. The Data Team Lead contributes hands-on to delivery while supporting team development, consistency of implementation, and overall execution quality.
The role operates within a project-based delivery model and works closely with the Project Manager and Data Architect to translate priorities and designs into delivered outcomes.
Roles And Responsibilities
- Coordinate day-to-day delivery activities across Data Engineers and Power BI Developers.
- Translate project priorities into actionable work items and support backlog execution.
- Work closely with the Project Manager on planning, sequencing, and tracking of technical deliverables.
- Ensure alignment between technical work and project timelines, milestones, and dependencies.
- Identify and help resolve delivery risks, blockers, and dependencies.
- Contribute directly to development of data pipelines, transformations, and datasets as needed.
- Support implementation of data solutions aligned with established architecture and design.
- Assist in troubleshooting data issues and ensuring reliability of delivered solutions.
- Provide guidance to team members on implementation approaches, standards, and best practices.
- Support consistency in data modeling, pipeline design, and development practices.
- Participate in design discussions with the Data Architect and contribute practical input based on delivery experience.
- Support onboarding and mentoring of Data Engineers and Power BI Developers.
- Encourage knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the team.
- Provide input on performance, growth, and capability development.
- Work with business stakeholders as needed to clarify requirements and support delivery.
- Participate in working sessions, demos, and reviews to validate outputs.
- Ensure delivered solutions are aligned with business needs and usable for reporting and analysis.
- Promote good practices in data quality, validation, and monitoring.
- Identify opportunities to improve reliability, performance, and maintainability of data solutions.
- Support incremental improvement of data assets and processes.
- Support implementation of data governance practices, including metadata, lineage, access control, and data quality.
- Apply established standards and decision frameworks for shared KPIs, hierarchies, and reporting usage.
- Contribute to master data alignment (e.g., projects, equipment, locations, cost codes) in collaboration with the Data Architect and business stakeholders.
- Support implementation of security models (e.g., row-level security in Power BI) and ensure adherence to organizational, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath business and vendor information
- Support other members of the Corporate IT teams as required

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data/Software Engineering, Information Systems, or Mining/Construction Engineering; equivalent experience considered.
- Advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., Azure/Data Engineering, Power BI) are an asset.
Experience
- 6–10+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or related roles.
- Experience delivering data solutions in project or program environments.
- Experience guiding or supporting junior team members is an asset.
- Strong hands-on experience with data pipelines, transformation, and reporting datasets.
Technical Skills
- Strong SQL and data transformation skills.
- Experience with modern data platforms (e.g., Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, DataBricks or similar).
- Experience supporting reporting solutions (e.g., Power BI semantic models).
- Understanding of data modeling and integration patterns.
- Familiarity with DevOps/DataOps practices.

Additional Information
- Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines
