Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.
Job Description
We are seeking a detail‑oriented and technically strong Financial Accountant to join our Financial Reporting team. This role offers exposure to consolidated reporting, financial systems, external audit and stakeholders across the Group.
You will play a key role in delivering timely, accurate and compliant consolidated financial reporting, working within a complex and fast‑paced reporting environment. This is a rewarding opportunity for an accountant looking to deepen their experience in Group reporting and consolidation.
As Financial Accountant, you will be responsible for:
- Preparing consolidated monthly financial results for the Steelmaking Coal business using Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) in line with Group reporting requirements
- Reporting consolidated outlooks (forecasts) and budgets in HFM and calculating/posting monthly consolidation eliminations
- Preparing journal entries relating to SMC facilities held with Group (including loans and deposits)
- Preparing monthly tax effect accounting calculations and balance sheet reconciliations
- Performing monthly revaluations and foreign currency translations in SAP
- Assisting with Group reporting templates at interim and year end
- Processing and maintaining financial master data changes/mapping in SAP
- Supporting SAP and HFM business user testing activities
- Coordinating with internal, external and group stakeholders to investigate and resolve intercompany mismatches and timely execution of the external audit program
- Preparing the annual audited consolidated financial statements for the Anglo American Australia Limited Group and annual solvency statements, the annual dividend assessment and supporting solvency and treasury management matters
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- A tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance
- CA or CPA qualification, with up to 3 years post‑qualification experience
- Strong technical accounting skills and exceptional attention to detail
- The ability to manage multiple deadlines in a complex, deadline‑driven environment
- Experience working in a large corporate or Group reporting environment
- Exposure to consolidation and reporting systems, particularly HFM and SAP (highly regarded)
