Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
Job Description
As a
Section Manager Work Management – Sishen you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Prioritise safety and health in all team interactions, act as a role model, and ensure zero harm and fatalities.
- Collect and use scheduling information from strategy development and implementation details to develop a schedule per the OM Scheduling process.
- Compile a detailed list of production steps with input from discipline planners.
- Specific key actions, triggers, and interdependencies.
- Identify synergies between production steps.
- Review the schedule with the Integrated Planning & Operating Model Manager.
- Consolidate discipline work inputs to the Operating Master Schedule.
- Set up scheduling model elements (e.g., date, duration, trigger).
- Identify high and low-impact activities for scheduling.
- Load work packages into the schedule.
- Track, adjust and update the schedule for actual performance.
- Specify schedule activity frequency distribution and outline threats/ opportunities.
- Model schedule output distributions and calculate confidence in achieving expectations.
- Review and validate the Operating Master Schedule.
- Develop Routine Operating Schedule.
- Co-lead the engagement and contribute toward the programming activities with site leadership in establishing a platform and process for the optimum integration of the OM at the Mine (direct output, advisory authority).
- Plan, schedule, resource, and support the management team in delivering the projects to the required specifications (direct output, advisory authority).
- Manage the integration, scheduling, prioritisation and reporting of Work Management activities, ensuring alignment with the overall Mine Master Schedule and escalating any conflicts as appropriate (direct output, advisory authority).
- Support and co-facilitate identifying and analysing opportunities to enable step changes in value by continuously applying OM principles (direct output, advisory authority).
- Liaise effectively with key business contacts and technical and OM teams and build strong working relationships (direct output, advisory authority).
- Facilitate the transfer of responsibility to operational management and support the programme as directed (direct output, advisory authority).
- Assess the continuous effectiveness of Work Management, recommend improvements, and implement them for future interventions to deliver the strategic intent (direct output, advisory authority).
- Ensure that the required measures are in place, monitor the Work Management and Process KPIs, and intervene and guide each process toward sustainability (direct output, advisory authority).
- Adopt appropriate Measures to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of the Scheduling process as defined in OM Work Management Measures.
- Intervene to improve scheduling measures that are not stable or capable.
- Maintain and document the required managerial routines in support of the Work Management requirements.
This role is in the Technical & Integrated Planning (T&IP) NC discipline at a Band 6.12 level (D4/D5Grade) reporting to the Manager, Technical & Integrated Planning.
Qualifications
- Grade 12/ N3 Technical
- B Degree in Industrial Engineering/ Mining/ Mechanical/ Electrical/ Chemical/ Metallurgical/ Geology or equivalent NQF7
- Valid SA Drivers Licence
Experience
- 6-8 years of operational experience in the mining, process, engineering, or fabrication fields within the mining environment, with 2 years of relevant business improvement experience.
- Understanding of project management principles.
- Familiarity with key value drivers within the discipline's value chain and interdependence of critical levers.
- In-depth knowledge as a Subject Matter Expert on Work Management.
- Awareness of new technologies and their impact on operational activities within the scope of the role.
- Understanding of business acumen and commercial drivers of site performance.
- Familiarity with basic financial metrics and budgeting tools.
- Knowledge of risk management techniques and critical controls.
- Familiarity with leadership tools for implementing a culture of purpose-led high-performance and change.
- Awareness of safety, health and environment, legislative, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
