Your Next Challenge
Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be part of the Geology Department. You will be responsible for establishing, leading, and executing all geology activities at the Upper Beaver Project. This greenfield operation is transitioning through ramp and shaft development toward future production.
The role will build the geology department from the ground up, oversee exploration and resource development, integrate geology with mine development, and ensure geological readiness to support safe, efficient, and compliant production.
Department Establishment & Leadership
- Establish and structure the Geology Department, including staffing plans, roles, systems, and workflows.
- Recruit, mentor, and manage geologists, technicians, and contractors as the project evolves.
- Set clear performance expectations, development plans, and succession planning for the geology team.
- Foster a strong safety culture and ensure geology activities align with site safety management systems.
Exploration & Resource Development
- Develop and execute surface and underground exploration strategies aligned with project objectives.
- Oversee drill program design, execution, logging, sampling, and QA/QC protocols.
- Manage geological interpretation, 3D modeling, resource estimation, and model updates.
Mine Development & Production Readiness
- Support ramp and shaft development through geological mapping, structure interpretation, and ground condition assessments.
- Provide geological input to mine planning, scheduling, and economic evaluations.
- Prepare and maintain geology procedures suitable for operational mining environments.
Technical Governance & Compliance
- Implement standards, controls, and documentation aligned with company and regulatory requirements.
- Support technical reviews, audits, and reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with exploration, sampling, and reporting standards (NI 43‑101 or equivalent, as applicable).
Collaborating, Planning, Budgeting & Reporting
- Develop and manage geology budgets, forecasts, and cost controls.
- Prepare regular technical and management reports on exploration progress, resource growth, and development risks.
- Work closely with Mining, Engineering, Project Controls, Environment, and Health & Safety teams.
- Provide geological support to capital projects, scheduling decisions, and risk assessments.
- Communicate geological risks, opportunities, and uncertainties clearly to site and corporate leadership.
What You Need To Succeed
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geological Engineering (Master’s degree considered an asset);
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in underground and/or open pit mining (experience in greenfield or early‑stage project development considered an asset);
- Resources evaluation and Exploration experience are an asset;
- Supervisory experience and strong leadership capabilities are a must;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team;
- Knowledge of software Datamine, DHLogger/Fusion, Leapfrog, Deswik, Centric;
- Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications, especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
Your Work Schedule
- Schedule: 4/3 (Monday to Thursday) at our Upper Beaver site, located in Dobie, ON.
