The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Specialist, Finance to join our Controls and Financial Center of Excellence team in Sudbury or Toronto.
The role is a permanent hybrid position. This posting is for an existing position vacancy.
As a Specialist, Finance you will act as a senior contributor within our newly established Controls and Financial Center of Excellence (CoE), driving global financial governance, strengthening internal controls, and leading high-impact finance initiatives that support the CFO agenda.
This is a hands-on senior role for someone who thrives in a build-and-run environment, embraces both strategic and operational work, and takes full ownership of end-to-end delivery. You will influence cross-functional stakeholders, translate complex financial and control topics into actionable insights for executive decision-making, and ensure our transformation initiatives move forward with discipline, quality, and compliance.
In this role, you will:
- Act as a PMO/CoE resource for cross-functional transformation projects (e.g., carve-outs, regulatory/legal requirements, system migrations, process redesign, and process mapping), building operating models, roadmaps, and cadences that keep initiatives moving despite organizational complexity.
- Take end-to-end ownership of assigned deliverables and adapt to shifting priorities, stepping in where the team needs support — this is a Center of Excellence role, not a fixed-scope position.
- Prepare executive-ready materials and represent Finance in SteerCo forums, translating technical topics into clear recommendations for senior leadership, the CFO organization, and internal/external auditors.
- Develop and maintain governance frameworks — Contribute to accounting policy topics (e.g., IFRS treatment, governance, complex commercial agreements such as joint ventures, lease contracts, and cost-sharing structures, etc.).
- Lead and coordinate strategic finance initiatives across Finance, HR, IT, Procurement, Treasury, Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Operations, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and audit-ready execution.
- Coordinate with external advisors (Big 4 and consulting partners) on audits, benchmarks, and advisory workstreams.
- Design and deliver training programs to embed compliance awareness and process mastery across global teams.
- Mentor peers within the Controls and Financial Center of Excellence team and act as a trusted authority on governance and financial control matters.
What We Offer You
- Competitive compensation including a variable annual incentive plan
- Participation in a competitive Defined Contribution Pension package
- Comprehensive benefits package (company paid core coverage, health and dental coverage, flex accounts, disability plans and optional insurances)
- Leave for all of life’s reasons (vacation, personal, sick, parental)
- Flexible work arrangements
- Work culture dedicated to safety, diversity & inclusion, and career growth
- Employee Family Assistance Program
- Virtual Healthcare online
- Online training and career development opportunities
About you
Education:
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, Business, or a related analytical discipline.
Experience:
- 8–10 years of progressive professional experience in Engineering, Finance, Controlling, Accounting, Internal Controls, or Audit — ideally within a global, matrixed environment.
Skills:
- Strong ownership and delivery focus — delivers complete, audit-ready outcomes, balancing quality, speed, compliance, and control.
- Collaborative and adaptable team player — flexible to changing priorities, builds trust across cultures, and contributes where the team needs support most.
- Cross-functional and executive-minded — effectively navigates Finance, Tax, IT, Procurement, HR, and Operations while engaging senior leaders and auditors with sound judgment.
- Proven experience leading cross-functional projects and transformation initiatives involving Finance, IT, Tax, Procurement, and/or Operations.
- Ability to translate complex financial and control topics into clear, executive-level insights and recommendations.
- Solid knowledge of IFRS, internal control frameworks (SOX), and governance principles (DoA, policies, and normative documents).
- Portuguese is a strong asset, given regular interaction with teams in Brazil.
Preferred Certifications (an asset, not mandatory): CPA, P.Eng, or PMP.
