About The Role
The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) serves as a strategic advisor to mine leadership, partnering with operational and functional leaders to enhance organizational performance, workforce productivity, leadership effectiveness, and organizational readiness. The role drives people strategies that enable safe and sustainable business growth, supports organizational design, workforce capability development, succession planning, and inclusion & diversity initiatives, while ensuring the mine has the talent, structure, and culture required to achieve its operational objectives.
The role will report to the Senior HR Manager and this position is site based on a 4/2 roster.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with mine and leadership to align HR and workforce strategies with operational goals, production targets, and business objectives.
- Provide strategic guidance on organizational effectiveness, workforce productivity, change management, and business performance.
- Lead organizational design, workforce planning, and optimization initiatives to ensure efficient structures, role clarity, and capability alignment.
- Drive workforce readiness plans to support mine start-up, transition from construction to operations, and other strategic projects.
- Identify workforce capability gaps, critical resource risks, and succession needs, developing sustainable talent solutions and mitigation strategies.
- Foster a high-performance culture through performance management, accountability frameworks, and productivity improvement initiatives.
- Lead talent management processes, including talent reviews, succession planning, leadership development, and retention of critical talent.
- Champion Inclusion & Diversity, nationalization initiatives, employee engagement, wellbeing, and culture initiatives aligned with company values.
- Coach and develop leaders on people management, team effectiveness, employee engagement, and change leadership.
- Support business transformation, restructuring, and culture change initiatives while strengthening organizational capability.
- Analyze workforce data and HR metrics to provide insights on productivity, engagement, retention, diversity, succession, and organizational health.
- Develop executive reports and recommendations, measuring the effectiveness of HR programs and their impact on business outcomes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Psychology, Industrial Relations or a related field.
- 12–15 years of HR experience, including significant strategic HR Business Partnering experience within mining, heavy industry, construction, energy, or other large-scale operational environments, multi-sites and either in regional or global roles.
- Demonstrated expertise in organizational design, workforce planning, talent and succession management, leadership development, inclusion & diversity, change management, and organizational effectiveness.
- Bilingual in English and French is highly desirable

About The Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.
Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
