Structural / Mechanical Approval Engineer – Offshore Container Team (Engineer or Senior Grade Engineer).
Our department: Our department, Assurance Services is dedicated to delivering high quality projects across a wide range of energy related sectors, it comprises 170 professionals working across two sections, i.e.:
- Project Assurance provides technical advisory and verification services from early design through to offshore commissioning.
- Asset Assurance (in which this role is based) focuses on providing verification services for in-service operations, up to and including decommissioning. This opportunity: As an Approval Engineer in our offshore container group, you will become part of a dynamic, highly motivated and supportive team of approval engineers making up a truly collaborative environment, offering opportunities for individual learning and professional development. Our container team is a group of structural and mechanical engineers specialising in the delivery of certification of offshore containers, including lifting gear and portable offshore units manufactured, tested and deployed across a growing variety of energy related sectors. This service is based on the application of client ST-E271, first published by client in 1989 and quickly adopted by the offshore oil and gas industry as the ‘gold standard’ for the design and certification of offshore containers. Our team is responsible for maintaining this standard and the service line, using our knowledge, experience, industry networks, best practises and feedback. We have convened the working group and contributed to the development of ISO 10855 (based on DNV-ST-E271), contributing our knowledge and expertise to the first publication of this international standard in 2018. We work on projects for customers located across the World, providing a wide variety in the technical and professional challenges that you will encounter. While our projects are global, this role is primarily office-based in the Dyce Business Park, Aberdeen. We would consider basing applicants from other UK offices, but you must be willing to spend some initial time in Aberdeen whilst getting up to speed and travel regularly thereafter. We will support you from day-one with a structured development and training plan to help you grow professionally. Working directly with experienced engineers and technical experts, you will contribute to approval projects while developing your technical, commercial and project management skills according to the client expectations and systems.
As an Approval Engineer you will have the opportunity to:

• Gain practical experience in the use of finite element (FE) modelling and engineering tools, e.g. Sesam Genie to perform structural assessments.

• HND or Minimum 2:2 degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering.
• Knowledge of fundamental principles in engineering topics including but not limited to loads and load combinations, mechanics, materials, joining techniques and standard detailing, fabrication methods and structural analysis (including the use of Finite Element Method).
• Excellent numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience in Excel and/or mathematical modelling will be beneficial, although not essential.
• An inquisitive outlook with sound logical reasoning and an ability to produce clear and correct technical reports based on your own work.
• Familiar with commercial and project management principles, with an interest in developing skills in project planning, budgeting and customer engagement.
• Self-motivated with the ability to plan and prioritise own time and activities, to meet deadlines and achieve project objectives.
• Adaptable and reactive with an ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
