South America dominates copper production

Five out of ten of the world’s biggest copper mines are located in South America.

The top producing mine of 2016, however, was Freeport McMoran’s Morenci Mine in Arizona.

Copper has been on a tear. It was bouncing near $2 a pound in early 2016. This summer the red metal has been closing in on $3 a pound.
