CPE Mengdong Energy orders the well-tried Tenova TAKRAF SRs 2000 bucketwheel excavator

Tenova TAKRAF has won a turnkey contract for the supply of one SRs2000 bucketwheel excavator for the coal mine extension operated by the Zhahanaoer branch of the CPE Mengdong Energy Group. The Zhahanaoer coalfield lies at the northwest end of Togliao city in China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous District. The open pit mine is situated on a the ridge of the southern part of the Daxing’an mountain range. In this region the tough climate is characterised by temperatures varying from +39°C down to -39°C. The coal mine covers an area of 31.36 km² and holds an estimated coal reserve of 827.93 Mt of lignite extracted at various levels from 85 to 356 m depth. (more…)

NDCO Construction Services has just sold a third Roadheader to Sochi, Russia . The machine has just been delivered onsite where it will be used constructing tunnels for the 2014 Winter Olympics. The 135 ton Sandvik ATM105-IC heavy roadheader will be assembled and commissioned by one of NDCO's technicians, who will also be providing training to the operators and mechanics at the project. The 2014 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XXII Olympic Winter Games, will be held from February 7 to February 23, 2014. The host city, Sochi, Russia, was elected on July 4, 2007, during the 119th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Guatemala City, Guatemala. This will be the first time that the Russian Federation will host the Winter Olympics; the Soviet Union hosted the 1980 Summer Games in Moscow. NDCO has also recently provided a roadheader for use in a tunnel project in Vancouver, Canada, host city to the 2010 Winter Olympics. CONSOL Energy and Green Holdings Enlow, a greenhouse gas abatement company, have entered into an agreement to develop the largest ventilation air methane (VAM) emission abatement project in the US at CONSOL’s underground Enlow Fork mine in southwest Pennsylvania. The VAM abatement equipment to be installed at the mine will capture and destroy methane released during the mining process that would otherwise escape to the atmosphere through the mine’s ventilation system. The mine produces some 10 Mt/y of coal. This project should reduce VAM emissions by the equivalent of 190,000 t/y of carbon dioxide (tCO₂e) and is expected to be operational in the second half of 2010. (more…)

(NEPONSET, IL) -- Martin Engineering, with the assistance of its attorneys at Barnes & Thornburg LLP, Chicago, IL, has again prevailed in a suit for patent infringement initially filed against it by Air Control Science, Inc. Air Control Science, Inc, of Boulder, Colorado, was owned by John Fischer, a former Martin Engineering distributor, and is now part of CCC Group, of San Antonio Texas. In the original action, Air Control Science sued Martin Engineering for patent infringement. Martin Engineering countersued, and following trial in March 2008 was awarded costs as the prevailing party. In a follow-up ruling issued January 19, 2010, United States Senior District Court Judge Richard P. Matsch ruled all three patents asserted were unenforceable for inequitable conduct, found the case "exceptional", and awarded Martin its attorney fees. Prior to the March 2008 trial, the Court had reserved for later determination Martin Engineering's defense and counterclaim of unenforceability of the patents due to inequitable conduct. Trial to the Court of the inequitable conduct counterclaim commenced September 1, 2009 and concluded September 8, 2009. In January 2005, Air Control Science, Inc. sued Martin Engineering in Denver, Colorado alleging infringement of United States Patent Nos. 6,000,533, 6,176,368 and 6,135,171, all relating to dust control systems used in the transfer of bulk material. Martin Engineering denied infringement and asserted defenses of invalidity and unenforceability due to inequitable conduct in procuring and enforcing the patents. In February 2007 Air Control Science, along with the patents in suit were acquired by CCC Group Inc., a San Antonio, Texas corporation, which was then substituted as Plaintiff. A three week trial was conducted in United States District Court in Denver in March 2008. On September 17, 2008, Senior Judge Matsch ruled that the '533 and '368 patents were invalid and that Martin did not infringe the '171 patent. Costs were awarded to Martin Engineering as the prevailing party. Prior to the March 2008 trial, the Court had reserved for later determination, Martin Engineering's defense and counterclaim of unenforceability of the patents due to inequitable conduct. Trial to the Court of the inequitable conduct counterclaim commenced September 1, 2009 and concluded September 8, 2009. This decision, which can be reviewed at Martin Engineering's website (http://www.martin-eng.com/news), is another significant victory for Martin Engineering and its counsel, Barnes & Thornburg LLP, who were adamant in defense of this litigation. Ed Peterson, Chairman of Martin Engineering, expects the company to be awarded in excess of $4 million in litigation fees and expenses as a result of Judge Matsch's finding of the case as "exceptional" and his strongly worded opinion of inequitable conduct.

European Union regulators say this plan to combine some operations could damage competition. A statement from the European Commission says it would investigate whether the companies’ plan to pool iron ore mining in Western Australia would affect the global prices or supply for iron ore transported by sea. European steel makers complained last November that the mining combination could hike prices for iron ore. This high-speed 42 tonne articulated truck has been designed to maximize productivity as well as provide increased safety and excellent operator comfort in underground haulage applications. The Minetruck MT42 is available now in Scandinavia and Canada and will be launched globally in 2011. The Minetruck MT42 is powered by a fuel efficient, low-emission Cummins QSX15 520 hp EPA Tier 3/Stage IIIA engine, coupled with proven drivetrain components, delivering reliable performance and high speed on ramps. The transmission has eight forward and two reverse gears and features a self-diagnostic system for rapid troubleshooting. Operator comforts in the standard ISO ROPS/FOPS certified cabin include an air suspended forward-facing seat, a clear, multifunction display monitor, air conditioning and a trainer's seat. Fellow operator, Jan Lehtinen also appreciates the driving qualities of the new Minetruck. "The MT42 is able to go round corners that other trucks would need to back up again and again to get round. Both backwards and forwards, it takes corners smoothly," he says. "Some trucks can lose traction on inclines, especially when they are not carrying a load or in wet conditions. This is no problem for the MT42, you just drive straight on." Advanced productivity The articulated steering increases maneuverability and allows agile cornering, while the dump system can discharge a full load in just 13 seconds. Rear facing cameras, one backup camera and one loading camera covering the box, complement the operator's view from the cabin. The truck's brakes are spring applied, hydraulic released (SAHR) - the safest in the industry. SAHR brakes eliminate the need for a separate parking brake, are low maintenance and provide extended service life. The province of Ontario, Canada is supporting the opening of a new manufacturing facility in its southwest, which will create approximately 64 new jobs in Wallaceburg when the facility opens in summer 2010. A recognised leader in providing conveyor systems for the mining industry, Precismeca is investing nearly $3 million to equip the plant, including a $894,000 loan from Ontario’s Advanced Manufacturing Investment Strategy (AMIS). (Joe) Main, Assistant Secretary of Labour for Mine Safety and Health, and MSHA unveiled an upcoming enforcement program to prevent fatalities within the industry. The program will be titled “Prevent Fatalities - Rules to Live By.“ MSHA plans to start implementation of the program on March 15.
