Your work environment
Newmont’s Cadia Valley mine operation is situated in New South Wales, 25 kilometres from Orange and 250 kilometres west of Sydney. Cadia produces gold doré bars from a gravity circuit and gold-rich copper concentrates from a flotation circuit. The operation includes the Cadia East Mine which is globally renowned for its use of block caving, a large-scale underground mining method.

Your impact
Newmont’s Near Mine and Brownfields Exploration department is seeking to recruit a Geologist to join their Cadia team. Reporting to the Supervisor, Exploration Geologist, in this permanent residential position, you will provide support across allocated exploration work programs in line with strategic exploration objectives.
As part of our team you will
- Design and supervise exploration work to ensure it is delivered safely and in line with design objectives and standards.
- Communicating with Exploration and Operational teams regarding work plans and take responsibility for daily work requirements.
- Monitor exploration performance against KPI’s and provide regular updates and analysis.
- Be responsible for the collection of routine geological data – drill core logging / field mapping / sampling.
- Supervise contractors to maintain safety standard, contractual obligations and exploration objectives.
- Develop, plan and schedule work activities in the short-term time frame (1 – 3 months).
- Compile, assess and interpret analytical results and reports.
- Report on work program progress and follow up recommendations.
- Assist with preparation and presentation of budgets, long-term work programs and business plans.
Prerequisites for your success in the role
- Bachelor’s degree in Geological Science or related.
- Demonstrate strong communication, leadership and commitment to safety.
- Previous greenfield and/or near mine exploration experience (in field or site based).
- Experience in exploration work program design and field management.
- Ability to analyse geological data and derive meaningful insights.
- Understanding of industry best practice and related compliance regulations and procedures.
- Exposure to data visualisation tools and modelling software – i.e. Leapfrog, ArcGIS.
- Full and unrestricted rights to work in Australia.
Please note: This permanent residential position will be based in Orange, New South Wales and will suit applicants currently living in Orange or near surrounds in Australia. It is envisaged the work pattern will be 7 days on, 7 days off. Applicants must have full and unrestricted rights to work in Australia to be considered suitable.
