Plant Engineer
Position Description
The Plant Engineer provides technical support to all site maintenance and operating groups. Design and deliver assigned projects within approved budget, schedule, and quality parameters, and in compliance with established health, safety, environmental, regulatory, and internal corporate requirements. Ensure compliance with regulatory maintenance surrounding the hoist and processing plant are upheld and monitored.
Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Planning and Reliability Superintendent in reviewing site drawings and assisting in mechanical/structural reviews.
- Participate in site investigations and evaluations of existing buildings structurally, including underground infrastructure. Contract third party engineering firms to assist as required.
- Review drawings, prepare reports/studies.
- Maintain the MOL rope record book to comply with Mining Reg. 854.
- Maintain regulatory compliance for all the components of both the service and production hoists – shaft, ropes, attachments, conveyances, and shaft working platforms.
- Assist maintenance planners with the continuous improvement of maintenance strategy for fixed assets and mobile equipment across site.
- Track and review planned / unplanned down time and assist with Root Cause analysis for failure of equipment major components and any losses to process / production. Work towards leading this process on an ongoing basis.
- Attend and participate in shift tailgate safety meetings. Ensure adequate field time is spent interacting with maintenance and other site personnel {VFL requirement}.
- Partake in the criticality assessment review for key assets. Develop this process to align with Corporate and industry best practices.
- Working with the Supply Chain team, complete evaluation of potential bidders and contractors to ensure competitiveness and a good match for the operation. Complete all the on-boarding requirements and notifications as required to ensure mobilization is smooth and not delayed.
- Support the Plant Department with the Management of Change associated with maintenance procedures, materials, and acquisition of new equipment.
- Provide support to other maintenance staff for maintenance budgeting, cost reporting and variance analysis for project work. Assist with the creation of the annual operating and CapEx budgets.
- Work with the Supply Team to identify critical spares and streamline the procurement / stocking of replacement parts.
- Use of all the technology available to ensure an excellent condition monitoring program for critical infrastructure and processing equipment. For example, NDE, vibration monitoring, thermography, lube sampling / monitoring.
- Facilitate the sharing of best practices between maintenance groups across site & work towards facility-wide commonality of maintenance strategies.
- Liaison with the site’s insurer during the annual audit, inspections, and during any impairments to the site’s fire protection equipment.
- Assist in preparing cost estimates and sourcing products, validate scope requirements.
- Liaison with the provincial body TSSA to ensure regulatory compliance for all the pressure vessels and safety valves.
- Assists with engineering duties on projects of various complexity.
- Provide technical/engineering support to other maintenance staff and the various site groups as required.
- Participate in development, implementation and adherence to safe work procedures and promote high safety, health and environmental awareness and compliance to all standards.
- Support development of the department's annual execution plan and develop area specific, goals and objectives.

Qualifications
- Post Secondary Degree in Mechanical/Civil/Industrial Engineering
- Professional Engineering designation within Ontario (preferred)
- Preferably 5 to 7 years practical engineering experience working in mining.
- Experience with SAP or other electronic Enterprise Asset Management systems.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrates high levels of initiative and preferably has a history successfully of implementing change.
- Strong prioritization, organization, and reasoning skills.
- Ability to self-direct and work well within a team.
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage priorities and work on various projects concurrently.
- Experience with the following or similar software: SAP, Xeras, MS Office, MS Project, AutoCAD, Civil 3D.
