Position reports to: Superintendent, Production, Cable handling
Grade: 17
Direct reports: Shift supervisor, Area Supervisor, Production, Cable Handling
Purpose
- To be responsible of ensuring the Efficient and Safe cable handling to accommodate the operations needs and planning of cable routing locations to mining Splitter boxes, Cable bridges, electric Drills and Digging units from the mining skid substations
KPA’s
- Planning and scheduling
- Risk management and statutory compliance
- Meet production targets in accordance with the key performance indicators
- People management and leadership.
KPI’s
- Plan daily ,weekly and monthly cable works to meet production cable related downtime target for electrical drills and Shovels
- Optimize cable routing from Substation and splitter boxes to electrical Units to meet site load requirements
- Hold weekend management meetings with Production manager and Senior Supervisory staff to ensure optimal co-ordination and clear communication.
- Coordinate with cross sections to ensure timely resolution of production bottlenecks so as not to cause delays on delivery dates
- Schedule that there is sufficient manpower and machines available to meet production targets
- Plan and optimize Electrical shovel loading bay set up to ensure maximum productivities such as truck turning radius, cable tower positioning , dozer clean ups and loading sequence.
- Set up electrical drill bench floor for success by providing access for services and explosive loading
- Review risk assessments and conduct SHEQ audits ensuring that the working environment is safe, clean and environmentally friendly
Key Responsibilities
- The incumbent will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function. Ensures the compliance to requirements of Mine Safety and Inspections acts and mine safety inspection regulations in accordance with the appointment.
- The employee leads and manages a team of cable handling shift and area supervisors to ensure the outputs and KPIs are achieved. The employee focuses on cost efficient use of all mine cable handling activities and consumables and tools management.
- Employee Coordinates and Supervises daily activities in accordance to the agreed plans from Mine technical services. The Incumbent is responsible of ensuring training needs are adhered to compliance of the teams and focuses on improving the quality of activities by continuously observing and mentoring the teams in relation to correct practices in the mining operations. Performs other duties directed by his Supervisor
Qualifications
- Grade 12 Certificate
- Degree in Mining/Mineral Science or any related or equivalent mining qualification
- Valid Blasting Licence
- First Aid Certificate
- Driver’s Licence
- EIZ certificate
Experience
- 5 years’ relevant experience in open pit mining is required, of which 3 years’ should be at a supervisory level
- Comfortable working with heavy Machinery, and Mechanically adapt
- Knowledge of mining rules and regulations( MR / ER) regarding Heavy electrical equipment management
- Proven track record of supervising and managing people
- Knowledge of safe handling of high voltage cables and high voltage switching
- Knowledge of drill and blast planning as well as loading Unit scheduling.
- A team player and have the ability to work under intense pressure
- Excellent analytical and communication skills
- Basic knowledge of rigging will be added advantage
- Knowledge of Condition monitoring
