Job description:
Purpose
To help the mine understand and manage hydrological processes as they pertain to mining activities, surface water interactions, and environmental compliance. The Hydrologist will evaluate water resources, develop water management plans, and ensure the sustainability of water use in accordance with environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
- Planning and collecting water samples from surface and ground water resources within the mine and surrounding areas in order to obtain relevant data to support projects and decision making.
- Evaluate potential impacts of mining activities on local water systems.
- Design and implement water monitoring programes to gather data on hydrologic conditions.
- Analyze water quality and quantity data; create reports on findings.
- Utilize hydrological models to predict the impact of mining activities on water resources.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal water resource regulations.
- Prepare documentation and reports required for environmental permits.
- Work closely with Mining and Process engineers, Hydrogeologists and regulatory agencies.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders, including management and regulatory bodies.
- Assist in the preparation of environmental impact assessments (EIAs) for proposed mining projects.
- Recommend best management practices to mitigate water-related impacts.
- Advocate for sustainable water management practices within the mining operation.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts regarding water conservation and quality.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Hydrology, Environmental Science, Geoscience, or a related field (Master's - advantage).
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in hydrology or related fields, preferably in a mining context
- Strong knowledge of various hydrological modeling software and data analysis tools
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and permitting processes

- Ability to properly manage own work with minimum supervision
