New Afton Mine
Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.
Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.
About The Role
Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 10 hour days (4 days on, 3 off)
Position Reports To: Fixed Plant Maintenance General Supervisor
Position Overview
The successful applicant will provide skilled expertise in the installation, maintenance, and repair of piping systems. The role involves supporting operational changes due to malfunction, breakdown, relocation, replacement, or installation of new equipment associated with all aspects of the mine site, including surface and underground operations. Conducts preventative and corrective maintenance on all fixed plant piping systems. This role is instrumental in the planning and execution of maintenance, installation, or modification of new and existing systems.

Key Responsibilities

- Communicating daily with crew members ensuring they can safely execute their tasks and that essential information is crossed between supervision, the crew and other departments.
- Work with supervisor to:
- Lead with a one-company mindset to drive safety and operational excellence
- Role model New Gold values, Life saving behaviours and courage to care
- Assist in shutdown supervision and resource coordination
- Ensure crew maintains exemplary housekeeping throughout site and promote teamwork
- Ensure that the maintenance team provides exceptional customer service
- Provide leadership to help all crew members be successful
- Drive the expectation of quality information
- Understand and apply the information from the New Afton Supervisors Handbook
- Enter INX, SAP and Work Notifications thoroughly including actions and follow-up
- Installing, inspecting, and maintaining piping systems
- Reading and interpreting blueprints and piping schematics
- Assembling, installing, and maintaining pipes, valves, fittings, and other piping components
- Cutting, threading, bending, and welding pipes to specifications
- Testing installed systems for leaks and ensuring proper functioning
- Performing routine maintenance and repairs on piping systems
- Providing effective communication with all levels of the organization
- Assisting in the planning and execution of maintenance projects
- Providing feedback to reliability personnel regarding equipment strategy documents and improvement opportunities

In Addition, The Successful Candidate Will Possess
- Red Seal Journeyperson Certificate in a recognized piping trade: Pipefitting, Steamfitting, or Plumbing
- 5 years in a directly related leadership role
- Experience working underground mining
- Experience on a mine site maintaining piping systems, including those for milling, crushing, conveying, and pumping equipment
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and diagrams
- Skilled in various pipefitting techniques such as cutting, threading and welding
- Experience with HDPE piping and fusing
- Experience with rigging, hoisting and operation of mobile equipment
- Knowledge of safety protocols and best practices for working with piping systems
- Understanding of reliability tools and techniques
- Knowledge of world-class piping and maintenance practices
Preference May Be Given To Candidates With
- A complementary trade ticket, e.g., Welder/Fabricator
- Training in advanced piping techniques
- Other mechanical trade education, e.g., Diploma, certificate
- Experience working as a crew lead hand, supervisor, or in maintenance planning
- Experience working with SAP or other CMMS
Compensation
The anticipated salary for this position will be between $125,000 to $130,000. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
