Job Description
The primary role of an electrician is to install electrical power, equipment and control systems throughout underground work areas:
- ESS’s (substations), pumpstations, charging dispensers, shops, vent doors, sumps, etc.
- Fabrication and installation of electrical racks and cable supports
- Lighting, receptacles and electric/hydraulic equipment
- Phone systems and all mine communication systems
- PLC and other advanced or automation systems
- High Voltage, Medium Voltage and Low Voltage installation and equipment
- Installation of DC charging equipment
- Assist with fabrication of electrical panels and other necessary installation of electrical cables, when required
General
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner
- Must be capable of reading & understanding electrical drawings
- Must be capable of reading and interpreting basic electrical instruments and testers
- Perform safely and timely emergency repairs to equipment
- Must be able to follow proper procedure to ensure safety and to control equipment damage
- Must have skills to help train new employees, apprentices, etc., in the area on day to day operations plus and on the procedures for operating electrical test, maintenance and installation equipment not requiring third party approvals.
- Must be able to communicate written and verbal instructions to subordinates

Health And Safety
- Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
- Following Redpath Canada Limited health and safety standards and systems, including the Five Point Safety System and the Cardinal Rules, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions
- Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment required in the performance of the work.
- Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.
- Comply with the Act and Mining Regulations that apply to the work area.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Journeyman electrician’s certificate (Red Seal) and provincial license as required
Work Experience
- Experience in the installation of low, medium, and high voltage installation and repairs
- Experience in HV cable termination and splicing would be considered an asset
- 2- 3 years underground experience an asset
Knowledge Required
- Ability to multi task and work effectively
- Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
- Electrical installations, troubleshooting, construction and maintenance skills.
- Ability to supervise skilled and non-skilled workers
- Ability to read blueprints, effectively lay out work, perform trade electrical work and possesses a general knowledge of repair work.
- Good understanding of CEC, M421, and Z462
- Able to communicate effectively (both orally and written), and able to develop and maintain good relationships with staff, and managers
- Able to problem solve by evaluating information, giving relevant considerations when making decisions, interpreting data and reacting appropriately to changing situations.
