Position: Data & GIS Specialist, Exploration
Reports to: Manager, Data & GIS Systems (Exploration)
Location: This role is based at the corporate office in Toronto.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Data & GIS Systems (Exploration), the Junior Data Specialist will be supporting the DBA and GIS Administrators with implementation and maintenance of end-to-end Data and GIS solutions for the Exploration Department. This role will also support Alamos’s Land & Tenure Management Group with GIS releated workflows.
This position requires geological field experience and an understanding of Databases and GIS technologies used in Mineral Exploration.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assists in the implementation of new database and GIS desktop/cloud applications
- Supports the DBA and GIS Administrator with exploration department and Land and tenure data and GIS tasks
- Assists with administration of file servers, MS Teams sites and Sharepoint for Exploration
- Provides technical 2D maps, drawings, figures, sketches and charts to support presentations and reports
- Assists with data compilation received from internal and external sources to make them useable in GIS
- Provides software support for GIS and 3D modelling softwares like ArcGIS, Leapfrog Geo, Micromine to site geologists when and where required
- Prepares training materials and tutorials, as well as, provides software training to user
- Other related duties as required, including travel to site (up to 50%)
Experience
Preferred
- Experience in a similar role (2 year +)
- Professional background in Geology, Geography, Geoinformatics or a related discipline
- Knowledge of mineral exploration workflows (Field Sampling/Mapping, Core Logging, Drafting, Laboratory analysis, QAQC)
- Experience working with GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS etc.
- Experience working with database software in mining
- Experience in designing and delivering training would be an asset
- ESRI and/or MS SQL Technical Certifications are considered assets
- Knowledge of software packages and applications such as ArcGIS, Micromine, Leapfrog and Acquire are considered assets
