About the Project
The Cerro Negro Expansion Project (CNE1) is a strategic initiative by Newmont Corporation designed to extend the life of its Cerro Negro gold mine in Santa Cruz, Argentina, by an additional 10 years and add additional gold production to the mine.
The expansion scope includes the underground development of five new mines, upgrades to surface infrastructure, expansion of tailings storage, and a robust exploration program targeting high-value ounces in the near future. Economically, the project aims to increase production to over 350,000 ounces per year and strengthen both regional employment and collaboration with government stakeholders.
CNE1 encompasses all activities required to bring new mines, located in the Marianas and Eastern Districts, into production. In April 2024, Newmont’s Board approved a funding request to commence with construction and underground development activities is which is being executed by a combination of local and national contractors.
Your Impact
As Project Director, Cerro Negro Expansion, you will lead the full project lifecycle, from planning to execution, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and aligned with strategic objectives. Your leadership will directly influence safety, efficiency, and stakeholder trust across significant investment initiatives.

- Champion safety, compliance, and strong governance across all workplans.
- Lead and guide work plans while building a high-performing and inclusive team.
- Implement and refine project management frameworks, ensuring consistency and excellence.
- Monitor progress, budgets, risks, and quality, reporting to senior leadership.
- Collaborate with internal leaders, EPCMs, consultants, communities, and regulators.
Requirements for Success in This Role
- Bachelor’s degree or formal qualifications in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field (postgraduate preferred).
- Appropriate execution experience managing complex, large-scale infrastructure projects, ideally in mining or construction.
- Proven leadership in building and retaining high-performing teams.
- Expertise in project management, contract administration, risk management, and quality assurance.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills, including community and government relations.
Your Work Environment
- Your work will take place at the Cerro Negro mine, located in Santa Cruz Province, Argentina.
The work schedule follows an 8x6 rotational cycle. - Collaboration with multicultural teams and external stakeholders will be essential. Adaptability, resilience, and effective leadership under challenging conditions are required.
- This role is based within Newmont’s Global Projects function, with regional and international exposure.
- You will work across office, site, and field settings, balancing strategic oversight with on-the-ground leadership.
- Expect collaboration with diverse teams and stakeholders in dynamic, high-impact environments.
