Newmont APAC Operations are located in Western Australia, the Northern Territory, New South Wales and Papua New Guinea, with roles in operations, projects, corporate support and exploration. APAC Business Unit Support is provided from our offices in Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne.
We're looking for an Engineer, Autonomous Applications who will lead the alignment of cutting-edge autonomous OEM mining systems with critical business and safety objectives, drive system optimisation, quality, and innovation through close collaboration with cross-functional teams, operational leaders, and technology partners. This role is reporting into the Lead Mining & Process Applications and is based at our Subiaco hub in Perth.
A day in the life may include:
- Developing and refining the software that powers autonomous haul trucks, drills, and loaders, while configuring specialised applications to meet evolving operational needs.
- Collaborating closely with OEM vendors and internal digital, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and operational teams as you coordinate system upgrades with and without business partners.
- Leading UAT and functional safety testing, and ensuring every application performs with reliability, safety, and precision.
- Running hands-on testing and QA activities, troubleshooting high-precision systems in real time, and gathering user feedback to drive continuous improvement.
- Maintaining detailed technical documentation, supporting project management activities including budgeting and forecasting, and working directly with vendors to resolve incidents, eliminate defects, and advance product enhancements, all contributing to a safer, more efficient, and more autonomous mining operation.
- Being the subject matter expert for critical mining systems in the APAC region, as well as providing call services when required for critical P1 events and outages.
About you:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field and an understanding of autonomous mining operations, application support, project management principles, and awareness technology trends.
- Adavanced expertise in configuring, quality assurance, customising, and validating large scale autonomous mining applications ensuring functionality, safety, secruity and reliability testing.
- High level of demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with experience in gathering user feedback analysis and driving continuous improvement.
- Proficiency in documetnation, performance monitoring including coding/API development, and data analysis tools within the Microsoft Data Lakes, PowerBI, Automate and Office 365 platform suite.
- Excellent communication skills and collaboration ability for working with internal and external stakeholder, proficiency in an additional language (Spanish, French, Dutch) is desirable.
